Onika POV
"Bessie you cannot take five of your blood pressure pills because it looks candy. This very dangerous."
"WHY NOT." The elder sneered back at me loudly.
"Because it can drop your pressure again and cause you to faint at your bingo game."
"WELL, I WON'T WANT THAT!"
"Good, because I don't want it for you either. I'm changing your prescription to something with less color and taste fouler."
"What a bitch." Bessie said waving me off.
I only could smile leaning in closer to my patient's daughter. "I'm going to change her from the Losartan to Norvasc. And I know you work, and you have the kids but please someone has to monitor her taking these medications. She's 93 her memory is not the best even though she's feisty. This could have been worst."
"Thank you Dr. Maraj I just.... It's a lot she doesn't want help my husband and I have been trying to move her across town with us. And I can't afford to have a nurse stay with her."
I looked over at Bessie and back to her daughter. "Your name is Mindy, right?"
She shook her head. "Yea."
"Well Mindy I'm going to put in a case management consult for social services to help you guys with home health. Just stick around for another hour or two the E.R is pretty full so they may be swampe-."
Before I could finish my sentence, Mindy pulled me into a hug. "Thank you so much Dr. Maraj! Thank you! Thank you!"
She took me by surprise. "No problem, I just want Miss.Fiesty here to be safe."
"BITCH I HEARD THAT!" Bessie snarled causing Mindy and I to giggle.
"You enjoy the rest of your day. I'm going to put the social work order in now." I gave Mindy a reassuring hand squeeze and excited the room, heading back to the E.R nurse's station.
I was working in the pit since Dr. Good had a family emergency to attend to. I didn't mind at all, being far away from the O.R as possible was my best bet right now. 'Morning' sickness as they call it was kicking my ass, any certain smells, sights, taste would have my head in a toilet bowl.
"NIKA!" Lauren shouted from across the E.R, she was trying to suction a patient who was having an active seizure. I placed my immobile down and ran over to go and help her.
"Can you get Neuro down here this is the fourth one she's had in the past three hours."
"Okay, are you sure you don't need any help?"
"No, I got her. Get Dr. Solo though."
I nodded turning around to the phone that was on the wall. On the first ring Dr. Solo answered.
"Hello..."
"Hey Dr. Solo, we need you in Bay 13 we have a young female having a fourth seizure."
"I'll be-...." She stopped talking but I could hear her voice in the background. The voice I haven't heard in almost a week.
I just hung up the phone and returned back to Lauren. "She's coming, you need me to pull some Ativan or something."
"She's all dosed out, I'm going to let this one ride."
"Did she do a drug screening?" I asked.
"Lab is backed up, even with stat orders."
"Okay what we got?" Dr. Solo pulled the curtain back observing the young girl shaking traumatically.
