We were about twenty minutes into the hike when it started to spiral. Sam would say something snarky to me, and I would try not to respond but it was everything. The way I walked. The way I talked. I accidentally grabbed his jacket off the couch because I thought it was Josh's. I'd even asked Josh if I could borrow it because I'd forgotten to pack a thicker jacket. Josh had agreed only for me to find out as soon as Sam saw me that it was actually his jacket. I refused to give it up though because he had a jacket already and it was cold.

"How could you possibly forget a jacket? You knew we'd be in the mountains," Sam continued, making everyone including myself groan.

"Samuel, please shut up.." Josh turned to him, making Sam roll his eyes.

"It was an accident. Just let me borrow yours this once and I'll give it back to you as soon as we get back.." I told him, trying my best to ease the situation.

"By then you can keep it. It'll have your sweat all in it," he mumbled lowly so only I could hear.

"Fine! I will fucking keep it," I nodded in agreement. If he wants to be annoying then so will I.

The leaves crunch underneath my boots as we walk down a rather steep hill. I'm busy enjoying the beautiful orange and red scenery to notice the waterfall up ahead.

"Look at that beauty!" Josh announces, gaining everyone's attention. We all gawk at the incredible landmark. The water roars and rumbles on its journey across the rough rocks.

"Race ya to the bottom!" Danny calls to Sam most likely and they both take off in a rather dangerous sprint down the rocky path.

We all eventually make it to the bottom and sit on some rocks to really take it all in. Mackenzie and Danny are taking up space on a rock beside me talking about all the trees and how they're so pretty in full bloom.

Jake, Josh and Sam are just a few rocks ahead of me talking about whatever it is that they talk about. I'm not sure I'd want to know everything. I couldn't prove it but I swear I felt eyes on me time and time again from their direction. Yet, every time I'd look down there they'd all be staring at the waterfall.

About half an hour later, Jake moves to get up and takes one last longing look at the water soaring off the jagged cliff. Josh beats everyone to the top. Danny and Mackenzie haven't even moved yet.

"I'll be up there in a minute. I'm just going to go touch the water," I told Mackenzie who was beside me and she nodded while giving me a soft smile.

I hopped quickly but carefully all the way down to the water and was surprised at how clear it was. Bright blue and transparent. Jake and Sam were still standing by the bottom but Jake turned to go back up the pretty tall hill. Sam was running his long fingers through the cold water. I squatted down and did the same out of curiosity. My hand made contact with the water and a chill went down my spine at how cold it was.
