Dinner was fine and Sam and I didn't argue the rest of the time we were exploring the downtown area. We also didn't speak to each other once so that might've played a part in it. I don't know why I once again have let him get to me. I can't help but kind of feel guilty because I technically started it this time and over something so meaningless. Thankfully, Josh sensed something was off and he didn't push his little plan on us anymore.
When we arrived back at the cabin, I was the first one out of the car and the first one inside. I tried to hide my annoyance but I knew everyone could feel the animosity between Samuel and I. I hastily made my way down to the basement where we slept and plopped down on the squeaky couch. Staring at the black television screen, I sighed loudly. I can't believe this morning I really thought I could possibly like him. Now it angers me that I could be so reckless with my affections and who I give them to.
I had exactly three minutes of peace before Sam and Danny came barreling down the stairs laughing about something unbeknownst to me. However, their laughter halted as they took in my current state of sitting down staring at the TV that's not even on.
"You good, Ivy?" Danny said, unsuccessfully hiding a grin.
"Yeah, I'm good.." I nodded, making sure to hold eye contact with Danny so that my eyes don't get any ideas about glancing at Sam.
"Okay," Danny ran his fingers through his hair and looked around awkwardly before walking to his and Sam's room. Sam followed quick behind. I glared at the back of his head where his brown hair fell down messily.
I grabbed my bag and went into the bathroom to change into my pajamas again. This time I had simple gray sweatpants and a baby pink hoodie. Tying my hair up in a bun, I exit the bathroom to see Sam and Danny exiting their room in their pajamas as well. Even though it's only like seven, we all try to make ourselves at home by putting on comfy clothes.
"We're gonna watch a movie, you coming?" Danny asked me as he stood at the bottom of the steps. Sam had already brushed past him and up the stairs.
"No, I'm not feeling well. I think I'm just going to take a nap or something.." I admit, which was partially true. My stomach was cramping pretty bad since my period was starting soon but I also wanted to avoid any more arguments with Sam.
"Okay, well you know where to find us if you feel better.." he smiles and I return the gesture before lying down on the couch and listening as his feet pad up the steps.
I grab the remote from the end table and click the television on. I scroll through the channels since this cable setup is ancient and has no guide button. I finally settle on a true crime documentary about some girl that went missing in Canada. As the day came to an end and the night began, the light that previously inhabited the room drifted away and I was left in the dark with the glowing screen. My eyes tried to stay open for as long as possible because I felt guilty about sleeping for some reason but eventually, I caved and drifted off.
"Ivy, psst.."
"Wake up.."
I was woken up by whispers and someone shaking my shoulder. When I opened my eyes the first thing I noticed was the neon blue television screen. I guess it had timed out or something and went to the default input screen.
The second thing I noticed was the time on the cable box. 2:21 AM. The third thing I noticed was Sam standing above me. I blinked hard trying to regain my sight in the dark room. I could make out his face thanks to the bright blue light from the screen. Before I can ask him why he's waking me up at two in the fucking morning, he sits down beside me on the small couch.
"Wha-," I don't even have the energy to finish my question. I pull my feet up closer to me and sit up halfway to stare at him in confusion.
"I want to talk," he starts.
