Why me, Lucius thought as he forced himself to travel up to the Dark Lord's room. He was being forced to go and ask the Dark Lord exactly what was going on. However, he didn't exactly have much of a choice in the matter. Bellatrix wanted to be the one to ask him, but given how furious she was that Voldemort was quitting the war, it wasn't exactly the brightest choice to allow her to go up there. Peter, of course, didn't want to do it at all and like the coward he was he turned himself into a rat and ran away. Narcissa was away somewhere. He couldn't get Draco to do it because Narcissa would kill him. So Lucius was forced to ask.

Lucius finally reached the second floor and was making his way towards the Dark Lord's room when he noticed from the other side of the hallway walking straight towards him, was Severus. They stoped right beside the Dark Lord's room as they stared at each other, bewildered as to why the other one was here.

"Did you need something, Lucius?" Snape asked him. Lucius shook his head.

"I was volunteered to ask the Dark Lord for an explanation." he answered Snape. Snape narrowed his eyes while tilting his head.

"An explanation for what?" he asked. Lucius eyes widened.

"You don't know?"

"Know what?"

"The Dark Lord is stepping down. Calling the entire war off for some reason. I'm just here to figure out why. Why are you here?" Lucius explained to him. Snape tried to say something when the doors opened, causing the two to take a few steps backwards. Voldemort took a step out of the room as his eyes darted between the two.

"Ah! Severus good to see you. Lucius this is quite the surprise, what can I help you with?" Voldemort asked him. The kindness surprised both Lucius and Snape as they quickly shot eyes side glances before Lucius returned his gaze towards Voldemort and spoke.

"My Lord I was asked by some of our fellow Death Eaters as to obtain an explanation to the reasoning for you ending the war so suddenly. Indeed, it came as such a surprise to us all to hear you suggest it." Lucius explained to him. Voldemort nodded his head in understanding.

"You have a right to know. Come in," Voldemort ordered as he proceed to retreat into his room. Snape and Lucius followed close beside each other in case they needed to make a run for it. Just as they were walking in, they stopped as their eyes wandered the room. It was filled from top to bottom with books of different sizes and different genres. Lucius and Snape looked at each other, concern, before they looked over at Voldemort who was making his way through the books.

"My Lord, what is going on here?" Snape asked him. Voldemort turned, holding tightly to a book to his chest.

"The reason I am calling off the war is because... I got a letter that was written some years ago from an old lover of mine... and... and it turns out I am a father." Voldemort explained to them. Lucius took a step forward even though his mind ordered him to back away.

"That is wonderful news to hear." Lucius said.

"Not really," Voldemort mumbled, "The woman I loved is dead. She passed away sometime between writing the letter and when I received it. And my daughter probably wants me dead. Probably? Ha! She does want me dead."

"You don't know that sir," Lucius stated. Voldemort chuckled.

"Oh, I do know, Lucius." Voldemort claimed, "Because my love was Jean Granger... and my daughter is Hermione Jean Granger."
