Laura woke with a start. CRASH! BANG! Huge, loud noises echoed around her home, but they came from the stables. Sounds were being thrown around her neighbourhood as if they were being used for a tennis match. Instantly, Laura threw herself from her comfortable position, sleeping in bed, and leaped towards the back door. Lights were already on, but as she ran into the garden, the movement detector flickered on, brightening her surroundings. As it did, Laura noticed that the gate, leading out of the garden and towards the rest of the land, already wide open. "Dad." She thought as she began to sprint up the path to the stables. As she arrived, Chippy suddenly stopped bucking and kicking in his stable, and looked longingly, desperately, at Laura. This made her feel suddenly uncomfortable. She peered into the brightness of the stables, feeling uneasy and nauseous. Though that was no excuse for letting whatever the heck was happening in there, happen! Inside, the voices of three unknown men were hanging in the air, though one extremely familiar voice had an extremely unfamiliar tone to it. The kind father who Laura had always loved and thought was kind and quiet, was now angry and controlling. Even in his darkest and angriest times, had she ever heard her father talk like this. "Explain to me. Why, why-oh-why, are you here? In fact, although i am holding a gun right now, and i have no reason what so ever, not to shoot you, or threaten you away from my house, i shall play nice...Unless of course you bring it upon yourselves not to tell me..."Mark Eastwood, ( Laura's father) spoke fearlessly, even when his daughter walked in and almost collapsed from anger and shock. Once she had recovered, she slowly walked behind her father and whispered to him, "Can i get him?" Mark replied with a simple hand gesture, of which meant for her to wait, just for a moment. He then pointed the gun at the three men who were desperately trying to protect themselves from Rain, who was rearing at them, clearly showing who was boss. The men then realised the other threat, and scurried over to where Mark was now pointing his gun, which lucky enough for them, was far away from Rain. Noticing her chance, Laura started to talk calmly to the troubled and terrified horse. "Don't worry, i'm here, they're gone you're OK."Laura repeated these phrases slowly as she approached Rain. His lead rope dragging across the floor, she managed to grasp it, she then looked deep into his eyes, the dark brown made her sink into his soul. Laura rested her head on his and began to stroke his neck and started to whisper tiny little things to him again. Soon, Rain was almost in a state to sleep, and he had seemed to have forgotten all about his dangers. Meanwhile, her father managed t get some answers out of the thieves, or at least "wannabe thieves".
"Owww!"Laura sat up and frowned, as she rubbed her back. "Well, there's no way that's going to get any better, not for now at least." Over the past week or so, Laura had been sleeping on the cold, concrete floor of the stables, after that one dreaded night, Laura couldn't forgive herself for letting Rain be damaged, on only the first night of him at his new home. At least she knew that that threat was gone at least. Though nothing eased her mind as much so for her to have a comfortable nights sleep. She said a sleepy good morning to her equines, and trudged down towards the house where she could already smell burning toast. As she entered through the sliding doors, a slight breeze brushed around her and swallowed the smell of burnt food and replaced it with the natural and fresh sent of another beautiful English summer day. "Good morning. You sore yet?" Dawn Eastwood (Laura's mother) chuckled and wrapped her daughter in her arms. "I won't tell, you do realise. Because if i do, well then you'll start worrying."Laura smiled and began to pour some coffee. "Laura! Laura! Laura! You'll never guess what i've seen this morning!"Maisy grabbed her sister's hand and dragged her upstairs to her bedroom. "Why are we in my bedroom M?"Laura wore a suspicious face as Maisy sat down at her dressing table and began opening Laura's laptop. "Excuse me! What are you doing?!" Laura quickly snatched the laptop off her desk and snapped it closed. "Why so guilty looking huh? What could possibly be so bad on there that you can't let you're own sister see?" Hiding her laptop behind her, Laura slowly backed away, but Maisy walked even quicker towards her, she then pushed her sister onto the bed and began to talk. "Ugh why do you have to be so difficult huh? Open your emails, then you'll see what i was trying to do. I only tried to shut down the notifications at 6am this morning when it was screeching it's head off. Then suddenly i was on your laptop, and well... your emails are just so interesting. I'm kidding haha, it was all about boring horse sites and other horse stuff. Anyway, i thought you might be interested in the one i found." Finally Maisy stopped explaining herself, and sat down next to her sister who was already logging onto the laptop. As Laura opened her emails, a chill flushed down her spine, something big was going to happen, but she wasn't sure quite yet. "Close your eyes, just do it please."Maisy smiled and covered her sisters eyes with her hand. "OK, OK. I will." Laura sat still for about a minute before Maisy instructed her sister to look again. Hand clasped over her mouth, Laura was in utter shock. She couldn't believe her eyes, in fact, she had to rub them just to be sure that she was seeing right. Laura didn't even feel her whole family entering the room and embracing her in a huge warm hug. They were all congratulating her, and that is when it truly hit her, her life was never going to be the same again, especially since she had 2 letters waiting a the door for her, ones that would make her summer even more difficult.
