MAX POV

I awoke for an average day of community college, by which I mean my mom drug me out of bed complaining that I was "an adult now". Sure, I should learn to wake myself up, but then Kelly, one of my mom's boyfriends, wouldn't give me a free ride to campus. Anything to get out of an early morning bus ride. I'm not a huge fan of other people. I wore low rise skinny jeans, with one rip below the left asscheek, and two on the knees. On top I wore a Nirvana T-shirt, a Nirvana sweatshirt over that to hide the slight pit stains, and a flannel to show I wasn't just a girly girl. For shoes, I obviously wore my mom's boyfriend Armond's muddy lace up work boots. It was a dope look.

On the drive there, Kelly gave me a long heart to heart about making responsible adult decisions and using protection during sex. "GROSS!" I exclaimed. He only laughed.

I was majoring in Modern Lit to help discover myself. I'm taking a lot of cool arts classes and also starting a new culinary class this week to be better rounded. I don't wanna just end up a country club golfer with a degree in vet science like my mom, even though my mom is pretty rad and has three boyfriends who all smoke weed.

I headed to the building my culinary class would be in and made my way up several sets of stairs, only to hear a familiar voice as I came to the last landing near my classroom. Was that FANG?!

I could've sworn I heard him talking to the bandmate Maia–I recognized her voice from the back up vocals on their latest release–the Chem Lab Villain's EP "Vampire Death." I remembered Maya's soft melodic vocals from the background of the last track Scrabble with Grandpa. Maia is wicked edgy and uses both spellings of "Maya," which I know because I pay close attention to the little pamphlet in the CD case and also all of their social media. Maya is always posting really edgy, interestingly-lit selfies that make really beautiful in an intense and unknowable way. Just saying this as a fellow girl, she's super cool. I'm not gay or anything. I just can appreciate when other girls are really stylish and have an eye for beauty, that doesn't make me gay or anything.

FANG POV

"Maya- I'm sorry ok!"

MAX POV

Speaking of no homo, it kinda sounded like Fang and Maia were also having a similar conversation in the abandoned brick hallway where all the physics labs used to be. I stood around the corner and listened in, sue me, I wanted to hear my favorite celebrity interact with his friend.

"For the last time, Fang, I'm not a lesbian!" Maia said, seeming annoyed, "Can you leave me alone so I can head to my Culinary Arts class please!! It's about to start!"

"But you didn't want to go to Cici's PIzza with me, which is totally out of character for you."

"Because you posed it like a date and I didn't want to go on a date with you!" Maya seemed really annoyed now.

I heard the scrape of a chair as Fang jumped out of his seat, "So you ARE a lesbian!"

"No! I just have short hair and don't want to go out with you and your stupid flat ass and ugly sharpened teeth! Why don't you go find someone else to flip your fringe at as a way of begging for compliments on your new choker."

FANG POV

I was crushed.

This is unbelievable. Only a lesbian would think my sharpened teeth and cool rings were ugly! Maybe Maya just needs to meet the right girl and then she'll realize her true deep-seeded feelings.

I made it my new goal this week to (without her knowledge) set Maia up with another lesbian. Obviously she was only doing all this flirting and kissing with Iggy to make me jealous. Poor misguided thing. There was no doubt I could find someone on this community college campus to go on a date with her. Someone who was a girl. Iggy doesn't even have a belly-button piercing and his hair has no body or movement at all. Also he's blond and plays the drums which is like... SO boring. What girl wants to date a guy that just hits things with sticks. The guitar is way sexier, not to mention a clear phallic symbol. But that's wasted on Maya of course, since she's a lesbian. By the way, if you're not clear on what a lesbian is, its girls who like girls, except nonbinary people can also be included in that. I'm really on top of these kinds of things.
I know all about modern gender identity and stuff, which is why I wear dresses and lip gloss and stuff and I can recognize when my bandmates are lesbians even before they do.

MAX POV

Maia stormed off to the culinary class that we apparently shared and I made myself look busy so it wouldn't seem like I was listening in to their conversation. She was quickly followed by Fang, who almost walked past me, before making a comical 360 and shouting my name. He was wearing fishnet tights and knitted ripped black arm-warmers and denim cut-off shorts over his tights. As well as black lace up boots that went all the way up to his knees. On top he was wearing just like a plain white men's button-up dress shirt with a silk tie. It honestly kinda worked and just pulled the whole look together. I was actually kind of impressed.

He repeated himself more quietly, as if he was remembering to be cool, "I mean, hey, Max!"

"Hey, man." I said with equal nonchalance. "It looks like Maia goes to class here, too? You as well, or is she the only one working on her education?"

"The stage is my teacher." Fang said with great gravity and importance as he flipped his hair out of his eyes, "You wouldn't get it."

"Damn, okay." I responded. He sounded pretty cool to be honest but I wasn't gonna let him know he'd made a good impression on me.

FANG POV

I looked down at Max, though she wasn't much shorter. It seemed like my cool pull had gone over well. She had the most beautiful, intense, glittering, brown eyes. I wanted to look into them forever, but she started looking a little weirded out, so I diverted my gaze.

She leaned over to get her culinary arts supplies out of the drawer next to her desk, and her ass was so breathtaking that I felt like I'd been socked in the stomach.

When she stood back up I acted super cool and leaned against the wall, "So, Max. Do you wanna get lunch after your class? My treat. I made a bunch from my last gig. Plus, I have a bunch of coupons for Cici's Pizza and I can get you unlimited fountain drinks." I made sure to look really handsome and even surly as I pulled my wallet out of my mini shorts. My shorts were so tight that it was really hard to pull my wallet out. The wallet took up like the whole left short pocket. I had to kind of wrestle the wallet a bit to get it out. But then it was worth it because she muttered sexily, "Cool shorts, bro." and looked me up and down.

She seemed to consider my proposition for a moment, when someone from the other side of the classroom said, "Ms. Martinez, will you be joining us? The class is about to begin."

Her face blanched and she grabbed her culinary kit and started to walk away from me, "I'll be done in 3 hours, stick around and I'll let you take me to Cici's.'

WIN! I thought I saw Maya inside the classroom shoot me a thumbs up, which was annoying, since I thought my date with Max would piss her off, not make her happy. I guess she is gay. Which is totally cool with me, my friend in middle school, Steven, was bisexual.

I took a seat on the ground outside, my bare thighs feeling a chill, time to wait for 3 hours. A small price to pay for buffet pizza with a girl who had an ass as rockin' as her mind.

(I wasn't just shallowly appreciating her body, I totally appreciated her rockin mind too. Plus her cool sense of style.)

I sat there on the cold ground like a dutiful, patient prince waiting for his princess to be free of the castle tower. God, I was good with poetry.
