It was funny. It's been so long since Zinoviya Barnes had last seen her father, and yet, she could remember it like it was yesterday. It replayed freshly in her mind, like she had been locked in a screening, forced to watch the same film for hours, days, weeks even. It was exhausting. Having to live, knowing her father was somewhere out there doing . . . god knows what. But surely, it was wrong. It was almost torturous. She remembered how quiet he was, all the time. When they were together, not many words were exchanged. Someone was always listening.
When Zinoviya came to terms with that, the fact that this was their life, never free to do their own thing, It was like an old bandage being ripped off, revealing a sickening scar underneath. Ever since she had gotten the news that she would be assisting The Winter Soldier on his mission, she had been feeling anxious. Why now? After all this time, why would they decide to reunite the murderous duo? Zinoviya knew better now, then to get her hopes up. If she had grown too comfortable around The Winter Soldier, they would pry her away from him, leaving her even more damaged than she already was. She knew that he recognized her when she saw him. The way that he would stare at her with a hard glower, she knew that he had an idea of who she was. She remembered him looking at her like that before he got mind-wiped.
It was discouraging. Zinoviya had stopped thinking about the Red Room. She was almost sick, thinking about the fact that she would be separated from her soldier. It turns out, The Winter Soldier was originally supposed to complete the mission on his own. Only, that plan had been altered, when he had failed, and the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. had managed to escape, they had no choice but to send Zinoviya into action. She had been waiting in the van, starring down the security guard in front of her when the door rattled, causing her eyes to widen. Everyone was alerted, but when the door slid open to reveal the masked man with the metal arm, they knew something didn't go according to planned, just by the wild glint in his ocean eyes.
