Ryker
"Just tell me everyone is ok." Ryker murmured into the phone after needling Carbry for the reason he had to rush back to New Orleans. He was already on the private plane by then, and could swear that Carbry sounded excited.
But he had to check. Things had been going far too well lately for him not to. Sure, the world had been collapsing around them and they'd been flying all over the globe to prop up and support the remains of the Orders. The human world had barely noticed, but the supernaturals were in disarray.
There had been some fighting, but not nearly as much danger as before. And they had won every battle. Nevertheless, with Meri and Carbry and Daryl, things had been really good.
"This isn't bad news, Ryker. Just get home." Carbry answered, barely restrained happiness in his tone.
"I'm already in the air." Ryker glanced out the window as the plane started rolling down the runway, forcing himself to relax.
"I'll see you then." Carbry ended the call, leaving Ryker to pace the plane for the next four and a half hours.
At least it was a private flight, and he could pace to his heart's content. He had sat down in front of his computer to work on a program he was designing on a whim for the security of Knight Corp, when he had noticed the system they currently had wasn't as good as it should be.
But instead, found himself playing a video game he had designed that involved pushing Tim down a well. He had sent Daryl a text message, but the man had yet to respond. His cowboy still did not reliably carry his phone on him all the time and had formed a habit of skirting whatever protection they'd have tailing him.
Ryker told himself he was going to take the time to talk to Daryl now that he was back stateside for a couple of days. He grinned, the video game yelled "fuck you Ryker!!!" as he beat the latest level.
When the video game didn't hold him any more than the programming, he stood and paced again. He barely sat down long enough for the plane to land and was out the door the moment it opened. He scowled when he saw Carbry had sent a car. It made sense, but he wanted to walk further than down the stairs before sitting once more.
When the doors closed and the SUV started off the runway, Bryn turned to glance at him, smirking, "What did you do this time?"
"Fucked if I know." Ryker relaxed then, offering the woman a smirk. "I lose track of it all, never know when I'm going to piss one of them off. Keeps things exciting."
"A team is bringing Daryl in." Bryn chuckled and shook her head. "Though last I heard they were having trouble... wrangling him."
There was an unspoken question in her words that reminded Ryker that things weren't always perfect. That Daryl was still distant at times.
Ryker looked out the window and sighed softly. "I thought he was at the centre."
"Yeah, he dropped a couple new kids off at the centre this morning. A shifter and a... fuck. He found a sixteen-year-old that had been changed. Shiloh was there. He just disappears for a couple hours, comes out with a couple of kids needing help. Then he was gone again."
Ryker frowned at that. His mind turned slowly, and he resettled the idea that he was going to have to have a word with his mate. A strongly toned word or five hundred as soon as whatever was going on with Carbry was done.
Before he could form a response, the SUV pulled up to the front doors, and he stepped out, flipping the bird in response to Bryn's "Good luck".
Choosing the stairs, he was up at Carbry's penthouse before he realized he had even started walking up to the door, though it opened when he raised a hand to knock on it. Alesky stood there, in pants and pants only.
