Carbry
"How long is it going to take?" Meriwa's voice carried, though whispered, to Carbry's ears as he stepped out of his home office. He paused for a moment, smirking ever so slightly as he heard the telltale tapping of keys on a keyboard.
Ryker hummed for a moment before answering "A bit. The buyer seemed to have used a couple shadow agencies to stay hidden."
"For a -"
Carbry clicked his door shut, the sound of his door closing behind him cutting off their conversation as he walked down the hallway, pausing at the closet to grab a light rain shell.
The weather app on his phone had told him that there was a chance of showers. "What are you two up to?"
"Ryker's showing me the video game he made. He's actually got Tim's voice perfect." Meriwa gave Carbry a sweet smile, though he knew her tells.
His Meriwa was a horrible liar.
Ryker wisely kept his face turned toward his computer screen. "Where are you headed to, is the question. I didn't even know you owned jeans."
"They may be yours." Carbry chuckled, glancing down at his practical outfit of jeans and a t-shirt with hiking boots. "I figured I'd go pick Daryl up. He loses track of time on the farm. Last time he stopped working after midnight and fell asleep in his truck bed on the side of the road."
Ryker glanced up to him before looking at Meri, giving the woman a half smile."Yeah. He's not going to want to leave his truck there though."
"I'm taking the Shelby." Car offered a shrug, grinning wider when a slightly wistful look came over Ryker's face. It was the man's favourite car, out of Carbry's collection anyways. "He'll leave his truck behind for the Shelby."
"Ryke promised to watch a couple romcoms with me later." Meri gave him a smile as she stood and walked over to Car, moving to kiss his cheek softly. "Do you want us to wait for you guys?"
Car knew what she was doing, trying to be sneaky and indiscreet and hiding whatever she and Ryker were up to but adorably failing. Laughing, he kissed her temple before shaking his head. "No. I'll distract him. Ask him about his cows or something. We'll bring you home supper?"
"Yes! I'll text you when I decide if I want Indian, Chinese, or Pizza." Meri kissed him again, giggling as he wrapped his arms around her and held her close for a long moment before reluctantly letting her go.
When she turned around so that she was no longer looking at him, Carbry lifted his eyes to Ryker, who gave him a subtle nod. Ryke would watch her. They had taken to keeping one of the three of them around Meri with her being pregnant. It didn't completely erase the worry he had about her, but it did ease it a little bit.
Following his goodbyes, Carbry grinned and walked out the door, whistling softly to himself as he made his way through the building and into his parking garage. He wasn't worried about what Meri and Ryke were up to because he knew exactly what they were trying to do.
They wanted to surprise him, and the cowboy, though they didn't know that they were several steps behind Carbry. The only one not tracking any of their sneakiness was their oblivious lover cowboy who was currently busy stacking hay at the Knight Corp rehabilitation centre.
When he reached his vehicle, Car tossed his jacket into the back seat and climbed in, starting up the roaring engine and pulling out of the garage. It wasn't long before he was on the highway heading to where Daryl had set up a place where those damaged or victimized by the corrupt organizations they had dismantled could regain some semblance of self.
