Daryl
Daryl had come to rely on his unexplainable connection with Meriwa, but now he was confused. And it confused him even more that she seemed almost completely oblivious to his own feelings, when she would normally zero in on how angry and worried and upset he was despite his best attempts to hide it.
He was thankful that she wasn't, and as she pulled him into bed again to cuddle, seemingly only half-remembering her ordeal, Daryl had begun to think that perhaps he had cut her off somehow and he was only sensing his own feelings again.
But it didn't feel like JUST him.
Not that he could always keep track, and he knew he should be a little less forgiving of himself after everything had just happened. There were more monsters and creatures howling and clawing to be let out of him than he knew he had in him. It had been almost impossible to let Carbry and Ryker go out the door without him.
But thankfully, Carbry had asked him to stay here.
Daryl knew Meriwa didn't need his protection.
She was strong and smart and skilled enough to look after herself and all of them, even without the super powerful being that rode along inside her. But knowing that she needed him here, if only for her own emotional and psychological wellbeing as she dealt with the trauma of what had happened, was enough for him to tamp down the angry beasts that wanted revenge just as much as Carbry and Ryker.
Daryl grinned at her as she covered the both of them in the blanket, wrapping them in warmth and the scents of them and their mates. Until she mentioned Carbry and Ryker, and then he found himself facing the goddess.
Daryl hesitated, searching Meri's face, seeing Meri, but also seeing Tiamat as well.
He loved Meriwa more than life itself. They were best friends and lovers, and they were starting a family, but he worried about Tiamat. He didn't know how to classify her, didn't know exactly what this whole vessel thing meant.
"She's listening to the babies..." Tiamat murmured softly in her ancient voice. Her expression conveyed the fury he was feeling from Meriwa, as well as the fear and worry. "Have they checked in?"
"Yes." Daryl paused, frowning for a moment. "Remy came by... they're... fine. But they're still busy."
Tiamat gave him a gently amused smirk, raising one brow. "She doesn't want to know, she doesn't want to think about all that, so she's not hearing it."
Daryl frowned deeper. "I don't know if I like that."
That took the goddess by surprise, and Tiamat sat up, or tried to, and Daryl sat up with her, helping her sit up and against the headboard. The goddess waited as he fussed around her and propped a couple of pillows around her back, sensing the strain and discomfort she was going through and doing his best to mitigate it.
Only when he was sitting kiddy-corner to her did Tiamat tilt her head to the side and frown ever so slightly. "What don't you like?"
"That you can lock her out of her own body. That you can take control and she doesn't know. I know you two say it's consensual symbiosis. But... how.. I mean, what do you do that Meri doesn't know about, with her body? You're the same person, but you're not. You say that you love who Meriwa loves... but is it because you're connected, or is it because you're making her do something? If you can control what she feels and concentrates on, how do I know she is in control? How do I know that she's consenting to what you're making her do... How do you know that you actually like all this, and it's not just Meri's feelings and thoughts?" Daryl felt the words spill out, the things he had been pondering idly for a long while, trying to figure out.
