It had been a few days after the murder of Karl. Dream and George had somewhat healed of their injuries, before heading to their old cave where Dream grabbed his extra sword, just in case they needed it.
Hopefully the drug had faded from the people's minds when the two reached the village.
George walked beside Dream as they made their way from their cave to the town center. Dream still couldn't fly in his condition.
"What if the drug is still controlling them?" George asked, voicing Dream's very concerns.
The blonde sighed, "Well, it's been 5 days, it should be gone, but then again they've been on it for 4 years so anything could be possible." He replied, frowning slightly as they came into sight of the village.
People were running around confused and frightened as the two approached, before an older woman shouted out upon seeing them, "Look, it's Prince Clay. Prince Clay!" She shouted and the villagers stopped what they were doing to observe the two strangers entering the town center.
Dream awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck as he was surrounded, George suddenly pushed behind the mob of people.
"Clay?" He mumbled to himself as he lost sight of Dream, the sobs of joy and confusion filling his senses.
Dream meanwhile struggled to find George with his eyes, but to no avail. He scanned the worried faces of his late father's people, suddenly overwhelmed by so many bodies at once.
A man cried out, "Where is King Sebastion!?" And shouts of the same question rang out as they all completely focused on Dream's reply.
"Alright! Alright! I'll explain everything in a minute, but you must wait until I've finished speaking before you say anything, okay?" Dream ordered and silence fell as he finished, it was almost eerie, and he felt the weight of his words on his tongue as he bore the bad news.
"4 years ago, Karl, a horrible person, made his way into our peaceful island by world travel. Here, he managed to assassinate King Sebastian and make himself King in his stead." Gasps rang out, but were cut off as Dream held up his hands to silence them.
"I escaped before he found me the second I heard of my father's death by a guard. Karl ingested a drug into you all every third night that makes you basically believe all that he says and forget everything important, including King Sebastion's death, and even me. But now Karl has been killed and you all are free of his treacherous reign. Kinoko Kingdom is free once again." Dream finished and waited as the people processed his words.
And after a few moments of silence, cheers rang out. People knelt before Dream, bowing low to the ground in respect, and all the blonde could do was awkwardly watch, not used to such attention after 4 lonely years of solitude.
As the bodies lowered, the only person still standing stuck out like a sore thumb and Dream smiled hesitantly at the brunette hugging himself from afar. George returned it, and the two stared at each other before the people around them began to stand up.
Murmurs and talking broke out as the news settled upon them all. Grief was heavy on their hearts as they realized their beloved king was dead, but the joy of their freedom and Dream's oncoming reign rejuvenated them and lessened the sadness somewhat.
A man stood before Dream, "We should begin your coronation preparations immediately!" He called out, turning to the people as they all voiced their agreements.
Dream nodded exhausted from the whole exchange and moved to push through the people, who parted immediately to allow their future king through.
"I'll hold a meeting in a few days to settle everything." Dream promised before finding George and pulling him out of the crowd towards the castle.
George smiled fondly at the blonde as they made their way to the castle, "Look at you, Prince Clay." He mocked and Dream rolled his eyes at the name, "I haven't heard that name in so long." He sighed, tingles running down his spine as George spoke his name.
He glanced over at the brunette who was still staring unabashedly back at him.
"George?" He swallowed thickly as he spoke.
"Yes?"
"I think.. I think I'm in love with you." Dream blurted out, fiddling with the hem of his dirty green hoodie, he was afraid to see George's expression.
After a moment of silence, George placed a hand on his arm gently, successfully stopping the blond who turned shyly to the brunette.
"You don't know how much I wanted to hear that." Dream heard George reply, before he was pulled closer, Dream looked down into his chocolate brown eyes.
He felt a smile overtake his face at his words, "Can I kiss you?"
Dream got his answer as George pressed his soft lips against his own, joining the two in a kiss. But oh, what a kiss it was. Dream had never kissed someone with quite so soft lips, or tasted such sweetness. And as the two pulled away for a breath, Dream found himself begging internally for more, which he was granted as they kissed once again.
After a few moments, Dream was the first to pull away, letting them catch their breath. And with beaming smiles, the two interlocked hands and made their way to the tall, mushroom castle, happy and content for that moment.
They could worry about Sapnap and the coronation tomorrow.
