A/N: This chapter is gonna be skipping between Ocean and 3rd Person quite a lot just to make it more understandable lol
update: i PROMISE my writing greatly improves after these first few chapters LMAO
Ocean POV
I felt as if time slowed, almost even halted as I walked into the Compound. My head was held high. The pendant on both my and Alisha's necks acting as a protective bound in case things got out of control. My extensive measures may have been somewhat extreme but I can't lose my sister. I can sense Marcel's alluding gaze from across the room, I feel myself almost floating toward him. Then I watch as he sends me a subtle smirk and offers Camille a dance. That bastard. Cami looks gorgeous tonight, she's sporting a dark red corset and black skirt, tonight she's a vampire. I find that ironic considering she's unknowingly dancing with one right now. We shield Cami from our world, it's safer for her, and we value her too much to danger her for our own benefits. I quickly realise I'm awkwardly stood in the middle of the floor, and suddenly the feeling of many eyes watching me becomes unbearable. I feel like a deer in headlights, my eyes skipping from face to face until I find a familiar one. The girl that saved my Grandmother. Instinctively walking over to her, she turns and smiles at me.
"Uh hi, thank you for well, saving my Grandma"
Tad awkward Ocean. You still have time to make yourself sound more, normal?"It's alright Love, I'm glad she's okay"
Love? Oh my gosh she's perfect. I shouldn't be this flustered. It's just a word Ocean. Love. Wow I didn't realise how perfect her hair is, or how pretty her eyes are, or just her in general.
"I- uhm. Thanks. Thank you. I'm Ocean Dubois" I pause. Everything I'm saying is practically word vomit.
"...But you didn't ask so I'll uh- be on my way""Ocean? That's a pretty name. I'm Rebekah"

3rd person POV
The blonde revelled in the attention. Almost every pair of eyes staring at the two as they danced together. Slowly swaying to the sound of old music. They stood silently for what felt like forever before the brunette spoke up.
"I would've loved to known what it was like during this time. Don't you think it would've been beautiful Rebekah?"
That was when the blonde realised, Ocean didn't know her secret. This was a clean slate to start something new. She wasn't weighed down by the burden of eternity, for in Ocean's mind, she was just Rebekah. Not the sister of Niklaus Mikaelson. Just Rebekah.
"I think the 1800's beauty would be a fraction to your own, and mine too"
The brunette blushed, shyly smiling at the blonde as they resumed their comfortable silence in each others arms.Ocean's peace was short lived for the anxiety of being in such an overcrowded area with so many glaring eyes was enough to make the girl tremble. She mumbled a quiet "sorry, I've got to go" to Rebekah before rushing out of the Compound.
The blonde was confused.
"Bloody witches" is all she mumbled before slumping down at the bar.Outside the Compound had such a beautiful atmosphere, you could faintly hear the party in the background as the wind blew softly. Ocean stared longingly at the almost full moon. This was it, soon enough she'd be rid of vampires, at least to the extent where they couldn't come near her home. By the end of the month her main priority could go back to her Grandma, her sister and her happiness. It'd been a stressful few months for the young adult, with vampires nearing her home the attacks got worse.
Her parents caught in the crossfire of a vampire attack. Killed for practicing magick in their own hometown.
Marcel saw it as discipline.
Ocean saw it for what it was, a cruel injustice.
That's what broke the two apart.
There was a time where Ocean was infatuated by Marcel Gerard and the feelings were beyond reciprocated. They were in love. Fated by the stars and moon but cursed by power. It was a classic Romeo and Juliet fable, they couldn't be together publicly so they remained secretive, as did their downfall. Marcel's hunger for the King title far outweighed his need to stand and abide by Ocean's moral laws.
Marcel was the one to call upon the witch hunt.
Marcel was the one who let the French Quarter witches die.
Marcel was the one who later apologised, attempting to provide an excuse for the actions that led up to the death of two exceptional people.
Ocean's parents.
However Ocean couldn't help but search his eyes everytime they met again. She'd pray to catch a glimpse of the Marcel she'd fallen in love with. The Marcel she'd run back to if he'd only said the words. Morals and vendettas can only remain so strong if the love fails to linger. That was Ocean's weakness. She searched for Marcel in everyone. Maybe that's why she was so attracted to the blonde girl, because they'd shared that same glint of mischief in her eyes, that same cocky response that fit so well with such a beautiful face. Or maybe Ocean was finally getting over the one and only King of New Orleans.
