It had been about a month of grieving. We didn't show it to our neighbors, but we were miserable. Nick and I never brought up the statement he made on the twenty-fourth, it wracked my mind on a constant loop. The workshop grew dust, never used and never entered. It was a place we knew was where we would have the most trouble.
"Chris? You haven't touched your dinner, again." Nick sounded desperate, but yet annoyed.
"Oh, just wondering how Holy is." I admitted, it was hard for Nick to understand my issue with her loss.
"I understand, I know it's hard but we have to do what would make her safe." he reached over and grabbed my hand, reassuring me that we were making her safe.
"We need to talk about something else." I added, I wanted to talk about something besides what he told me, among other things.
"Why did they disown you?" Nick spoke again, his voice calm and eased.
"I was found behind a shed, with the pastor's son. My brother in law." I admitted, ready to be kicked out.
"Before or after he married your sister?" he asked, no hate found in his tone.
"Before, ten years ago. They got married this past year from what I put together." I stated.
"So your gay?" he broke the ice, after a year he finally broke the ice.
"Yes, and I understand if you don't want me to live here anymore. I understand." I stood from my seat and started to go to the guest room. I couldn't get far, a large hand grabbed my arm and pulled me back to the table.
"Christmas, you do realize I confessed my love for you at your parents house, and was heart broken you said it was a phase." he sat me down and held my hands.
"Well, I don't see why that has changed. Maybe this time next year we can have an anniversary party, not a mourning session." I squeezed his hands. "Santa Claus."
