On December twenty-fifth I heard the bells. I was confused at first, why were there bells on my birthday? I was shortly answered when I heard the shouts.
"Come on girls right there, land on the path!" It was Nick.
I raced outside of the house to see my lover in the sky, the reindeers aimed at the ground and heading for the large path in front of the shed. I could see the doors were shut, so I headed for them. I met Nick's sare and smiled. I threw open the doors and stood back as Nick landed the sled.
"There we go, good job girls." Nick jumped out of the sled before removing the reins from the reindeer.
"How did you manage to do that? You could fly." I rushed to my lover and grabbed his arms.
"I wished for it. You told me to be back by your birthday, so I did." he took my hands.
I could see he was as shocked as I was to the fact he had made the sled fly, but we refused to acknowledge the strangeness. I watched as he adjusted his red coat and I finally got a good look at him. His once curled black hair was now mostly grey and white, and his cheeks were a bright red and cherry color.
"You look cold, come one let me get you a warm meal and drink." I led him back to the house.
That night was filled with laughter and stories. I reminisce on how he explained my daughter's appearance.
"She held her hair in a bun with elegance, and she looked unharmed and at ease. I left her the doll you made for her, and made sure to mark it with my name. I also left Nion a blanket to warm him at night." Nick told me about his adventure.
"And you made sure she knew it was from us without anyone finding out?" I inquired.
"Positive, besides who else knows Saint Nick?" he joked, handing me a box. Inside was a painting, one of my daughter holding a star. Signed in the bottom corner was her name, Holy Kringle.
