Expect disappointment and you won't be disappointed- Michelle Jones Watson
Romina's P.O.V
"What do you want to know?" Christine asks me and I shrug. "I want to know everything of importance."
We were sitting at a new office building. Chris's idea to expand, she somehow found the time to pick an employee and bring them out here to personally train.
After talking with Joseph, I figured it'd be best to meet with Chris as soon as possible. Get her side of the story.
"Not long after I delivered that invite to Joseph, he showed up in town. I didn't see him but we talked briefly on the phone and met on the day of the wedding. He gave me a heads up." I roll my eyes. He wouldn't mind his own fucking business when it came to me.
"What the fuck was Winston going to do?" I asked the question that had been gnawing at my chest since I got here. The anticipation was too intense for me to handle.
"It's not what he was going to do, it's what he'd already done. Winston began using the business as a way to launder money. Only that stupid asshole wasn't good at covering it up at all."
I sigh and look away. This piece of information would have wrecked me years ago but I'm not the same person I was then. I just wish they would've given me the opportunity to deal with that hurt myself.
"And what was the excuse for keeping this from me?"
Chris opens her mouth but closes it as nothing comes out. She shrugs and looks around before holding her arms to her chest. "Romina, you weren't yourself and that's not anything we blame you for but you were not thinking clearly."
"I'm not mad Chris, but I've got to admit I'm feeling a little bit betrayed. I know I might've not been in the best headspace but I was in control of my own choices. Not every irrational choice I make is mentally illness related. I am a grown woman and I'd appreciate it if everyone stopped walking on eggshells around me and treated me as a person who could handle her own shit."
I lean back and look at the ceiling. "Roman would have understood." I whisper to myself.
Life without the person you entered it with. A fate far worse than death I imagine. Of course there's a mother losing their child, or a child losing their mother. But when I think of my brother, my twin brother, the one whose heartbeat I memorized. Whose fingers would intertwine with mine and assure me that everything would be alright? I think of how some people are born alone in this world and that's how they leave it. But me? No I had my brother, I was born with my brother, I should have left with my brother. We should have left together–
I'll always be missing a piece of me.
"I apologize, and I can promise you from this day forward things will be different this time. I mean it." I smile and look at her. "I know you do." I respond and reach for her, she allows me to pull her in for a swift hug. "You can tell me the truth, did Joseph threaten him."
"He said if he thought about breathing the same air as you, he'd stick a fishing pole in his penis and put fish guts in his mouth then proceed to dump his body in the atlantic ocean where he could drown like his mother."
"Oh" I'm not sure what I should do with that piece of information. Maybe somethings are better left unsaid. "He was only threatening him right?"
"Fuck no have you met joey? He literally had a binder with all of his activity color coded to confront that cunt." I actually feel myself break down into uncontrollable laughter. She laughs with me before grabbing my shoulder and saying "It was fucking hilarious."
"Do- do you know how he got proof?"
"Nope the old man said he'd take it to his grave." I look at her and nod my head. I contain my laughter. I just want to scream
'THAT CRAZY WHITE BOY BROKE INTO MY HOUSE!'
Joseph would probably never talk to Chris again, just to punish me for telling her.
It's fucking concerning but pretty hilarious. To me...
"Do you know?"She asks me, bringing me out of my thoughts but I just shake my head denying. "I should probably go though Joseph's in the car waiting, he's dropping me off somewhere."
"Okay stay safe!" She sends me off and I walk down the stairs and out of the building.
I see our car? There's another one in front that looks almost exactly the same. I hesitantly walk towards the car I think is mine
I pull the handle and who I see is not joseph. " Romina get back!" I hear joseph yell but I don't see Joseph. All I see is hands reaching out to grab me and pull me in.
They get inside the car and close it. The doors lock and all I can do is think of the best way to kill all of us.
