a fall

It didn't take long for Ethan to return.

This time he was greeted by the ferrokinetic.

"Ethan," he acknowledged the desperate father.

Karl was less than pleased. He only saw Ethan as extra baggage, he much rather take Rose and use her against Miranda himself. The only reason Ethan was alive was that he was lucky, extremely lucky.

Which was most likely the reason why Y/N decided to keep him alive. His wife liked to root for unfortunate souls and little pathetic humans. She probably saw him as a puppy.

"Heisenberg," Ethan replied simply. He shifted on his feet, "Is the nature woman here?"

"Y/N?"

"Yeah, Y/N."

"My wife."

The air was thick. It wasn't a question, it was a statement.

Ethan furrowed his brows, "Y/N is your wife?"

He stepped aside and allowed Ethan to walk into the factory before narrowing his eyes harshly, "You got a hearing problem?"

Ethan's eyes widened a fraction, "I just didn't expect you two to be together."

"You're in a village full of mutated people," he pressed a button for the lift, "I thought you would stop expecting things by now, Winters."

"Where is she anyway?" Ethan inquired again.

Karl groaned at Ethan's insistent questions, "She's busy right now so you're stuck with me."

He couldn't understand why Ethan was so interested in Y/N. Ethan only met her once and she didn't seem too interested in him.

Maybe the stress of the village was finally getting to the desperate father and he was trying to grasp on to any friendly faces he could find. Karl could only wish that his wife didn't feed into Ethan's delusions too much.

The two men continued deeper into the factory and eventually went into the kitchen.

"Do you really think it's going to be easy to get rid of Miranda?"

Karl snorted, "I never said it was going to be easy," he took a cigar out of his pocket and placed it between his lips before he started rummaging through the kitchen drawers. "Miranda has been around longer than any of us. I don't think she'll go down without a tough fight."

The ferrokinetic's eyes glinted when a box of matches finally came into his view. He plucked one up from the pack and struck it against the countertop.

Ethan sighed and slumped in his chair, "I've heard some concerning things about her."

Karl breathed a cloud of smoke, "All horrible things I hope."
