Kanan exhaled hard and long, trying to ignore the pain that pulled at his skin and muscles. Death should have taken him ages ago. He could only delay the inevitable for so long. He focused, sending out as strong a help signal as he could. If Ezra or any surviving Jedi were anywhere close, they would pick up on it. The chances of that were slim, but he had no other options. This was his last resort. He held it on for a little while before he could no longer, slacking against his bonds. He wasn't ready. He couldn't die. It couldn't happen. He couldn't. But he couldn't live by his own power. He needed backup.
It seemed like ages before something happened. The door blew in, revealing two figures, one male and one female, both with lightsabers. The female's was a pinkish magenta, the male's was an orangish yellow. Kanan didn't believe it.
"Is this the one who sent out the call?" the boy asked, his voice reminding Kanan of Ezra.
"Has to be," the girl said, shortening the blade on her lightsaber to dagger length, walking up to him and slicing through the bonds, her lightsaber illuminating her thick, curly brown hair and doe eyes. She caught him when he fell on her, the boy taking him and carrying him over his shoulder. He had straight brown hair and green eyes.
"Fine," he said. "Lets go." They ran outside, the girl leading the way. Kanan didn't stay conscious for long after that. He woke up next on a shuttle much like the Phantom, but with wings that made an arrowhead shape.
"Where am I?" he mumbled, looking around.
"This is the Rebel," the boy called back. "It's a cross between those Imperial shuttles and the star fighters of old that the Jedi used to ride. This one belonged to Obi-Wan, I think. But he goes by Ben now."
"Built it ourselves," the girl said from next to him. "The Empire throws a lot of their crap out here."
"Wait," Kanan said. "How'd you heal me?"
"That's also thanks to the Imperials," the boy replied. "When they took over Coruscant, they threw away most of the medical stuff."
"Wow," Kanan said with a nod. "I'm impressed."
"Thanks," the boy said. "Now, I want to know the name of the first actual Jedi I've met."
"Kanan," he replied.
"Kanan," the girl mused. "Cool."
"I'm sure you want to know our names," the boy said.
"Yeah," Kanan replied, crossing his arms. "The thought crossed my mind."
"Well, I'm Ky," the boy said.
"And I'm Cris," the girl said.
"Huh," Kanan mumbled. "Why does that seem familiar?"
"Kyber Crystal," the two said simultaneously.
"Oh," Kanan said with a nod. "Your parents had a sense of humor."
"More like a sense of the Force," Ky said. "They were Jedi too."
"They were Padawans in the Clone Wars," Cris adds. "But they survived."
"Wow," Kanan said. "And you're both Force-sensitive?"
"Yeah," they replied in unison.
"Well, thanks for saving me," Kanan said. "But I really need to go home."
"Sorry," Ky replied. "But that's not an option yet."
"The Imperials will be chasing us," Cris adds. "We have to wipe our signature before we can leave the planet."
"Great," Kanan sighs. "Just great."
