Kanan looked out the window as the Rebel approached a sorely mechanical planet he'd never seen. It might have been a dust ball beforehand, but it wasn't anymore. It was covered in slums made of metal, visible from miles away.
"Welcome to Phoenix," Ky said as he brought the ship in for a landing on top of one of the many metal buildings.
"It's not much," Cris added, looking back at Kanan. "But it's home." Kanan nodded and kept staring out the window. He could see almost twenty different species within the square mile alone, of all races and types.
"Are you the only humans?" he asked.
"Nope," Cris replied as the ship landed. "There's about one other."
"His name is Jacob," Ky added. "But we call him Jay. He's the resident machinist."
"He can fix anything," Cris chimed in. The twins got up and walked out after the ship had been shut down, Kanan following them out the back. They got in the elevator that took them to the ground, getting out once it somewhat roughly hit the bottom. They walked into the small bustle of beings, Cris leading the way to a small two-story hut adorned with various pieces of decorated metal and cloth.
"This is our home," Ky said as he walked in. Two robots were playing with miniature ships on the ground, one of them thin, spindly, silver, and had wings sticking out of its back. The other was stouter, shorter, and a dull red.
"And those are our robots," Cris said, kneeling beside them, instantly getting a hug and a happy noise from the silver one. The red one toddled over to Ky and he picked it up,
"What are they?" Kanan asked.
"We don't know," Ky replied, setting the robot on his shoulders. "We accidentally woke them up, so we had to adopt them."
"This is Hyperdrive," Cris said, picking up the silver one. It waved and made a cute noise.
"And this is Lightspeed," Ky added, looking up at the red one, who waved.
"Hi," Kanan said slowly, waving back.
"We're trying to teach them to speak English, but it's not exactly working," Ky said. "They just don't get it."
"Jedi," Hyperdrive said in a robotic voice, pointing to Kanan.
"That's right," Cris cooed, smiling. "Were you paying attention?" Hyperdrive twittered and leaned into Cris.
"They might be Force-sensitive," Ky explained. "We aren't sure yet."
"Well, I'd say at least that one is," Kanan said, gesturing to Hyperdrive. "I can sense it."
"I thought so too," Cris said.
"Well, there's only one way to find out," Kanan said. "Throw something at him."
"Is that how they found you out?" Cris laughed, setting Hyperdrive down.
"No," Kanan replied. "Back in my time they tested your midichlorian count. It's a bit harder to do that these days." Cris shrugged, casually walking out. She suddenly whirled around and threw a light-dagger at Hyperdrive, the little robot dodging to the side and the dagger imbedding itself in the wall. Hyperdrive made a noise and looked at the dagger, then back at Cris.
"So?" Cris asked, pulling her dagger out of the wall.
"He's fast," Kanan said, rubbing his chin. "But that didn't tell us anything." Suddenly a horn boomed outside, making everyone look out the window.
"And that's the all clear," Ky said, setting down Lightspeed and heading towards the door. "Where do you want to go?" Kanan thought for a minute, then suddenly a name came to him.
"Tatooine," he said.
"All right," Ky replied. "That's where we'll go."
