They approached the giant door with extreme care. It was metal and heavy. Way to heavy for any of them to break down. They produced the card and swiped it. The door beeped at them politely and opened.
"Welcome back Douglas Rattman"
Chell stepped forward in a hurry to get this whole thing over with. The sooner they found the bloody thing the sooner she could go back to pretending the place didn't exist. Wheatley pulled her back away from the cat walk. He could tell it wasn't stable. If she had set even one foot on it there was a high chance of her falling through.
That was lucky she thought to herself. For the second time he had saved her. She was beginning to become glad of his presence. He had been nothing but helpful all day. He was being like he was when they first met.
No he's not like that anymore. He's...changed
It could never go back to the way it was. To much had happened. It was something she'd have to accept.
"This isn't safe. There is now an 80% chance of death and 15% chance of serious injury"
"O-ok well that leaves a 5% chance of everything going completely fine. Small I-I'll admit but it's there"
"Actually the other 5 is minor burns and cuts. The likely hood of everything going to plan is 0%" That didn't help the mood. Fact had done a fantastic job of spelling out what deep inside they already knew. The strong sense of doubt that had been troubling Chell was now pressing on the others minds as well.
80% chance. Wheatley knew that this might be his final opportunity to say what he wanted. Even though he was still under prepared he was about to try anyway.
"Chell I know that...that a lot has changed since t-the last time we met and that it's-"
"Cave Johnson here" A man's voice boomed from above them. Damn it. He really had it there for a second. "Now you lab boys listen up. This experiment is extremely important to the company. If this works out a Noble Prize is sure to be ours. So you be careful down there you hear me?"
The room was completely portal proof which was making movement extremely difficult. They had to go slowly and carefully between the few bits of cat walk that were still stable. Eventually, after multiple near disasters they reached a concentrate ledge.
"You'll get your chance again" Wheatley told himself. That statistic didn't mean anything. Fact was almost always wrong. When Aperture was safe again they could talk. It would be a whole lot easier when the threat of a nuclear explosion wasn't looming over them all.
"All present" asked GLaDOS. Her voice was fate and hard to make out. There was a lot of inference and it had been along time since she had tried to make herself heard down there.
"Just about" muttered Rick
"Levels approaching critical. Manual overwrite required" The announcers voice echoed through out the room.
"Hurry. There isn't much time"
