The car came to a stop in front of the large building. Sleek, shaded glass exuded mysterious energy. Bryan had begun to step out of the car leisurely but Amber lingered for a moment. Her thoughts were in easily a different country while she stared at her purse.
Stepping out of the car she looked around the busy street and saw the duality of life. Here on the border between paradise and the slums of the city one could view every walk of life. Old and young people were bustling in and out of offices. Meanwhile, mere feet away, homeless were bundled in what they could afford. Blanckets and tents littered back alleys that had no outlet. Though you could tell the most difference in who had family. Those men and women rushing through life to get to and fro work, they didn't stop to enjoy their breakfast, they didn't notice the colored stitching on their jackets, and they certainly didn't see how lucky they were. The homeless, the looked down upon, they saw everything with a more beautiful eye, the had stories instead of saint Laurent shoes, the had good friends instead of Gucci bags, and they had happiness instead of Halston.
Amber looked out upon this slice of the world and wondered to herself if this was the true divide of society, if she was destined to live the life she thought. But the second Bryan opened the door for her and she stepped inside the building a scent wafted to her nose she'd never forget.
Chocolates and coffee sat next to each other on a table inside the door. Avocado toast and French toast sat near and further down were fruits and macaroons. The luxury food made the scene strangely pleasant, combined with the ambient music playing.
As they walked in they were greeted by a man with fluffy black hair wearing a hoodie and sweat pants.
"Bryan! Been to long man, how are you" he greeted.
"Hey Alex, I'm good, how are you? Heard you're dating a certain someone." Bryan responded with a wink and a nudge.
"Ah, you know I don't brag about that stuff, but yes I am dating someone now."
Amber stood patiently while the two men talked. Alex stood slightly shorter than Bryan , and Amber denoted his relaxed demeanor. Amber shifted her weight while noticing the coloration of the lobby. The pale yellows and oranges were relaxing and pleasant. The front desk was made of a deep colored wood, and it had a small lamp on it. There was a hallway just beyond the desk with cut out windows that were labeled in fancy writing with different names and numbers. She noticed one labeled "Alexis Croft, 23". There was also a small water jug every so many feet filled with lemons and limes in sparkling water.
"What do you think of all this Amber?" Bryan looked over and questioned.
"Hm? Apologies I zoned out for a moment"
" Alex invited us to come to the dance at the Bella Grande later this evening" He kindly reiterated the question.
"Of course! It sounds lovely" Amber smiled, perhaps this would be the best way to get out there and make friends.
"Alright! Tonight's theme is mythology by the way" Alex clarified.
"Wonderful," Bryan replied while Amber nodded.
After the conversation they went back to the car and hopped in. It was another comfortably silent ride, this time driving through the city back home.
To get ready for a mythology theme dance seemed an easy enough task, right?
