Chapter 8:

Adrian slipped into his bed, and sighed when he felt the softness of the pillow beneath his cheek.

It had been a long day, and all he wanted to do was slip under the covers, and sleep.

He closed his eyes, and dreamed.

He was running, running along the shores of the beach, his laughter was loud.

Selene was running in front of him, wearing a long white gown. She glanced over her shoulder at him, and laughed. She sped up her feet, her legs moving in a blur of movement.

His heart pumping, he ran faster, knowing that he had to catch her somehow. He didn't know why they were running, or why he was chasing. He just knew that he hadn't had this much fun in ages!

Selene ran into the waves, and he ran after her. She bent over, her delicious bottom in the air. His eyebrows narrowed. Just what was she doing?

He splashed into the water after her.

"Are you quite alright, darling?" he asked with some concern.

She swung back up... And splashed him with water full in the face. He sputtered, and the salt water burned his eyes. She took advantage of his blindness to push him. He landed on his bottom with a large splash!

"Oh, I'm so sorry Captain," he heard the laughter in her voice. "It was an accident,"

He moved the wet hair away from his face, and saw that she was really close to him.

He grinned, and held out his hand.

"Help me up please?" he asked, poking his lower lip out just a little bit.

She leaned down and grasped his hand...

And he pulled her into the water with him...

He heard her shriek,

"Adrian, let me back up this minute!"

He rubbed her shoulders, and pressed her more closely to him.

"Not yet my beautiful siren," he murmured.

Selene tiptoed into the cabin, scared that Adrian would be cross with her.

She quietly closed the door, and made her way over to the bed.

To her immense surprise, he was sound asleep, his head resting on the pillows.

She bit her lip. There was only one bed in the room.

She knew it was inappropriate, but what choice did she really have?

She pulled back the covers, and started to climb into bed with him...

He reached out, grasped her hand, and pulled her into bed with him.

She landed on top of him with an ommph!

"Adrian," she whispered, trying to shake him awake. He moved his hands up and rubbed her shoulders. "Adrian, awkaken please?"

"Not yet my beautiful siren," he mumured.

Selene raised an eyebrow.

"Beautiful siren?" she whispered.

He suddenly stiffened.

"No, not you!" he yelled. "Stay away!"

She slapped his cheeks, trying to rouse him.

"You'll never have her, you bastard!" he screamed, and held Selene closer to him.

"Adrian, wake up please," Selene said, frightened now.

He just continued to shake.

Selene bent down and kissed his cheek.

"Adrian it is all right,"

She kissed his eyelid.

"It is just me,"

She kissed his nose.

"I'm here for you," she said finally.

She placed her lips over his.

A shadow stood over him and Selene, and since it was blocking his sun, he glanced up on full alert.

And his heart stopped beating.

There was a man standing above them, wearing a bandits mask on the lower half of his face.

"Dominic," he spat, letting go of Selene and rising to his feet.

The masked man eyes crinkled evily, and Adrian knew he was smiling.

"Hello, Adrian," he said, his voice raspy.

"Adrian?" Selene's voice asked fearfully.

"Why are you here, Dominic?" Adrian asked, completely ignoring her.

"Protecting my investment, dear friend," he said, stepping closer to view Selene.

"And who is this pretty little package?" Dominic asked, reaching forward to run a gloved finger down Selene's cheek.

To Selene's credit, she didn't flinch, not once.

"Selene, sir, Selene... Greenwhich," she introduced herself coldly, not allowing herself to show an ounce of emotion.

Adrian felt pride welling in his chest.

"Stay away from her!" he yelled.

"I don't know, Adrian, she looks like an interesting prospect.

"You will never have her you bastard!"

As he lunged for Dominic, he felt his mind fog, ans suddenly he was plunged into darkness
