Chapter 14: Revealing
“What the hell?” Selene busted out when they arrived back at the ship. Adrian closed the door of the Captain’s Cabin quietly behind him, walked over to his desk, and retrieved a bottle of rum and two glasses.
He set them on the small table, and uncorked the bottle.
“Aren’t you going to say anything?” she demanded.
He silently poured rum in the two glasses, and extended one of them to her.
“What’s this for?” she asked, but grabbed it.
He clinked his glass to hers.
“Our upcoming nuptials my dear,” he replied, tossing his drink back in one hearty gulp.
“Oh god!” she muttered, and downed the drink, relishing in the physical pain in her esophagus. She held her glass out to him. “More!”
He poured her another, watching as she gulped it down within seconds. When she held out her glass for more, he shook his head.
“I’m not pouring you another Selene,” he said, sitting down his glass, and taking hers from her hand.
She glared at him. “Oh yea?” she challenged. “Well I’ll just take the bottle then.”
She snatched the bottle out of his left hand and, bringing it up to her mouth, tore the cork out of it savagely with her teeth.
“Ow!” she muttered around the cork, and spit it out. It rolled across the wooden floor, and disappeared underneath the bed. Selene placed her lips on the mouth of the bottle, and tilted it up. Adrian watched her throat as she swallowed, the muscles working as she fought to get the alcohol down her throat. Rivulets of rum ran down her chin, and down the column of her neck, but Selene didn’t seem to notice. She was to intent on losing her mind to the alcoholic fog that was slowly clouding her senses.
When the bottle was empty, she threw it at the wall, laughing as it shattered into hundreds of pieces.
“Yo ho, yo ho,” she chanted, stumbling across the wooden floor. Adrian went to catch her, and she giggled as she grabbed his shirt sleeve. She drug him over to the bed and fell down upon it, dragging him atop her. Adrian moved so he was beside her on the bed, but still kept his arm slung around her waist. She turned on her side to face him, and played with the ties at the neck of his shirt, and gazed into his eyes.
“You know what, Captain Stormwall?” she murmured, slipping her hand into his shirt.
Adrian felt tingles all through his body.
“What?”
Selene closed her eyes and snuggled into his chest.
“Maybe being married to you will be a good thing. Imp already half in love with you.”
Adrian chuckled.
“Really?”
But there was no answer. He pulled back, and looked at her sleeping face. He smiled and kissed her forehead.
“I was in love with you from the very start,” he whispered, gathering her more closely into his arms.
