I got home at 4 pm, thanks to taking the bus.

As soon as I walked in, I heard Fay and Theo before they heard them. Fay was instructing Theo on how to play a song, and I felt a pang in my heart.

Whatever. I don't need her. I have new friends now.

I walk into the kitchen, grabbing a granola bar. But then I glance at my small chest.

I take a granola bar and make a PB and J sandwich. Maybe I'll eat more for dinner tonight.

I bite into my sandwich. As I hear footsteps approaching. Fay walks into the kitchen with Theo, and I feel my heartbeat spike. Please don't talk to me.

They don't acknowledge me as they pour some popcorn into a bowl, and walk away.

"Just a sec, I need to go to the bathroom." I hear Fay say I'm about to book it to my room, but then I have to turn back around for my granola bar, and then I speed walk, but then I bump into her, sandwich and granola in hand.

Fay looks over her shoulder. "Watch it, bitch." She rubs her thigh, where my knee hit it. "Thank god you're actually eating for once. I'm so over your anorexic bullshit." She hits her shoulder with mine when walks by and goes into the bathroom.

I pause mid-chew. I look between the sandwich and the granola bar.

I've lost my appetite.

I told Nevaeh and Alisha that I wouldn't make it to lunch. I just told them that I was staying in my math class, and my teacher didn't allow other people who weren't running that class to be in it. I wasn't sure if that was true, but I didn't want to risk it.

They didn't seem to care about her rule, but then I convinced them to just go to the library, promising I'll be quick. But I was happy that they would break her fake rule for me. They would break it because they wanted to hang out with one.

That made me happy.

But then I had to walk into math class, and my happiness died down to nothing.

I was happy to see that there were a few other people in the classroom, playing cards. I wouldn't be left alone with him.

"There you Ava. So you know Daniel," She gestures to him, and he smiles at me.

This is incredibly embarrassing. Now he knows I'm an idiot who can't understand math.

"Daniel is at the top of the class. He's very smart, so he'll be a great help." She smiled.

Daniel grimaced when she said that.

"Thanks, Ms. Kinsley." He said, uncomfortably. I started biting my nail but stopped when I realized I chewed off all the nails I could bite.

"Good luck." She said, leaving the room.

"Damn, okay bye," Daniel mutters.

"So I figured we could work after school?" He asks, "In the library?"

"I'm free Monday Wednesday and Thursday? From 3 to 5?" I offer.
