After showering, I checked the time. It was 2:00, which means that fourth period just started. My parents were definitely going to kill me for skipping school. But what could they do? Take my phone? I barely use it anyway, and now it's cracked, and possibly not working past the lock screen.
I suddenly felt sleepy, so I had a nap, and I woke up an hour later.
I still felt high—that was so weird to say— but I thought it only lasted for like 2 hours? Maybe I was just sleepy. I wonder if my eyes look red. I wonder if I look high?
I forgot that Fay was coming over today, as it is Friday. My plan was to get ice for my nose when my dad left to pick Theo up, but I couldn't.
So I had to go out in the kitchen and quietly open the freezer and get some ice. I placed the ice in the ziplock back one by one and cringed when I shut it because of the loud noise it made. I danced back to my room, singing, "The campfire song" by SpongeBob in my head.
And now I was sitting in my room, the zip lock bag pressed against my nose. I wasn't sure if it was doing anything besides making me cold, but I'm sure my mother will go ballistic when she comes home. Ba-llis-tic. Hehe. Balls.
Theo and Fay were home in the living room, but I cannot be around people right now. They don't match my energy, and I don't want to make them feel bad for not having fun energy.
What if there was an invention, where you could make people match your energy? Whether you were sad, angry, or happy. You had to make them happy, even if they were in the middle of watching Toy Story three.
Or if they had been at a funeral.
"I need to write this down," I murmur. I throw the ziplock bag—that's still filled with ice because it's only been 10 minutes— to the wall, jumping out of bed, but I slip, and fall, landing in my bad.
I pout, going to my knees and falling on my butt. Falling on your booty hurts on another level.
I get up and start skipping to leave my room, and then forget what I was doing.
Right. My invention.
I go back into my room, hunting for my phone. I don't find it, so I grab a piece of paper and a pencil from my bag and write it down.
Invention Idea #1
A device that matches people's energy
I wrote number one because lets be honest; I'll come up with another in a minute. I'm so smart.I hear the home phone ringing, and I gasp excitedly. Usually, I hate answering the horn phone, but maybe I could make a friend. What if they match my energy, and want to help with my invention
I quickly run to the island, grabbing the phone.
"Hello?" I giggle into the phone.
"Hello. This is a message from Angelwood secondary school, and your daughter, Ava Mitchell—
"Oh boo!" I shout when I hear the robotic voice. "Not a real friend!"
"Ava, give me the phone." I turn around and give my dad the phone, huffing. Can't believe I left my room for a robot. A stupid robot.
A robot that could make my invention come true.
I gasp again, and my father looks at me weirdly, listening to the call. He waits for a few beats, and his face hardens.
What did the robots say to him? Or do to him?
He goes to put the phone back in its holder, but I quickly grab it.
"Hello! This is Ava, and I have a great idea for a new—"
The phone is wanked away from me, and my dad puts it back.
