George stared out his large window whilst comfortably lying on the large window sill of his cold and spacious room showing him a glimpse to a normal life in the city of Atlantis. The sirens and fish of the city swimming about from building to building, stopping outside shop windows and letting something occupy them for a minute or two, their minds full of nothing too important but still enough to spark their unmistakable joy in life.
It's bright lights glittering from glow stone enchanting the city.
It was dark right now making the sight even more captivating.
Well it was always dark but it was especially dark now due to the fact it was night time.Night was George's favourite time of day. The darkness calmed his otherwise through the surface nerves and allowed serenity for him.
The door banged open.
He spoke too soon.
"Hey little bro. " One of his older brothers, Simon swam in. His blond hair with silver head band encrusted with green emeralds and matching shiny tail glistening in the faint glow of the glow stone in George's room.
"Hi Simon. " he smiled lightly. Out of all his siblings Simon wasn't that bad but still a pain in his tail.
"You coming to dinner? It's your favourite. "
The older man continued.George raised an eye brow.
"Yeah shrimp with caviar. I know you love it!" He hummed.
George stared at him. "I'm a vegetarian. "
Simons smile dropped. "Since when?"
George sighed and rolled his eyes. "Holy mackerel. I'll be down in a minuet. "
"Ok and put on your head crown Dads already
plenty annoyed at you. " Simon tutted before swimming back out the room.George sat bolt up right at that comment. His head crown was still in the lagoon he'd thrown it in in a fit of anger the week prior. There was no way he could sneak away again and get it. Let alone in the space of his father who was impatiently waiting his arrival down in the dining hall.
He silently cursed him self and went to his wardrobe.Luckily he had his other ones for other occasions he was forced to attend to but they were all much more flashy or heavy then his other one that was only just bearable.
He quickly settled on a crown with small but thick spikes with baby blue pearls at the top and swam down to the dining hall.He stopped at the double doors in the empty entrance hall. Pausing for breath. The grand marble stairs behind him backing him in invisible support. He held his breath and pushed open the doors.
It wasn't as big as the banquet hall but bigger then the breakfast room and most of the living rooms. A giant glass table lay across the middle of the room adorned with all types of fish and shell fish.
Only a pathetically sad and small portion of coral and seaweed for him on a silver platter. He slid into his seat, the furthest one away from his father at the head of the table and his oldest brothers, Josh and Simon either side.
"Nice of you to finally join us. " His father almost sneered.
The young Prince stared at his food.
"And good to see your wearing your less formal crown it's about time you took responsibility to your heritage. " he continued clearly not done pestering the brunette.
George forced a nod and began to scoff down his food keen to get back to his room. Frankly he found coral and sea weed perfectly good and saw no similar need his father had to scoff down his literal subjects for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
"So there is actually something I have to discuss with you boys. " The King announced, after a few minutes of agonising silence he quickly dismissed the staff floating around the room who basically lived for someone to finish their drink so they could top it up again.
They hastily left, clearly glad to be away from the Kings presence. He was seen as a amazing King by his subjects and admired by Kings and Queens ruling other Kingdoms but the siren Princes and staff had the fortune of seeing the miss minded, short tempted man he truly was.
The only person who'd ever had the courage to try to stand up to him was his most recent Queen: George's mother. Which was reason to the Kings not very well hidden distaste to his youngest son and why his mother had recently been found on the land of humans."Firstly I must tell you boys of your step mothers wishes due to her death. All of her stuff she gave to me and said she wanted no funeral or form of memorial. She said she wanted to go quietly. " he said failing to hid his curling lip.
George knew better then to speak against this obvious lie and stayed quiet like he always did despite going against his strong hatred to this despicable man he had the misfortune to call his father. His mother had told him all her belongings were left for him once. Clearly that had been taken from him just as she had.
He wanted to scream.
"Now to the more pressing matter at hand: as representatives of our family and therefor our people and ever growing empire I have decided it is time for new alliances to be formed for our strength and bloodline. " he nodded as if trying to assure them as well as he was himself that they would comply.
"What are you saying Father?" Tobi asked. His yellow tail and matching silver studded head crown complimenting his dark skin.
"I mean it's time for you boys to be betrothed."
They all sat in a dead silence.
Now he really wanted to scream.
———
George stared at the royal blue fire in his room.
Betrothed.
He didn't want to be betrothed he was barely 24, he'd only just graduated from school and was in no mind to become a husband for a pointless marriage and a eventual father.
For one he wasn't interested in any potential suitors his father had to offer like he had in the past. They were all too... they just weren't for him.
The fire suddenly went out stopping his train of thoughts before it crashed in its final station of distraught. He gently drifted over to the now empty fire place staring at the slowly flickering embers. He saw some light in the fading darkness however a small shiny flicker in the hearth made him lean closer and his curiosity blossom. The brunette stuck his hand out lead by an urge he didn't control.
He pulled out a tiny silver weirdly shaped thing. It had five little spikes coming out from the middle of it. It pricked his fingers slightly but he continued to hold it tight. He floated back over to his window and saw bright blurry light from above. Holding up his new found treasure he looked at it as it shined brighter in the light from above and he smiled.
This did use to be his mothers room after all.
