George swam to the surface.
Finally, finally he swam to the surface.
He swam like his life depended on it.He'd waited almost three months In the castle under his fathers rule for the perfect opportunity to leave and go to see his mother one final time before his limited freedom was gone for good.
He swam through the darkened waters whilst glow fish lead his way through the rocks and coral in the depths of the sea. He may not be friends with other sirens but the other creatures of the sea still were very close to him and since he was 8th in-line to the throne as the youngest of his family his responsibilities were a lot more limiting then his brothers but that also came with being constantly shunted to the side.
Now he was finally going to be in the light. Even if not the light he'd always wished for it was a light good enough for him.He soon was but a meter from the surface. From the light.
He stopped. Doubt causing his brain to short circuit and beg to rewire to his fathers power.
There was a reason the King had forbidden him from ever going past the twilight zone of the sea. Maybe it was for a proper reason.
No. He couldn't be second guessing himself now. Not when he was so so close to his mum.
The only one who'd ever understood him.He slowly tilted his head up and could see the giant blurry white dot through the top of the ocean and the little blurry ones surrounding. His mismatched deep blue and brown eyes widened at the view and he finally flicked his dark blue, shimmering silver tail and pushed one of his faintly muscled arms which had a piece of silver seaweed tied round it at the bicep, while with the other he held his small pale blue shell with a green pearl on it tied with a piece of black string he'd found searching ship wrecks when he was a child.
His face broke the surface and he opened his eyes.
He couldn't breathe, it was so beautiful. The little dots and giant dot were more arresting then any painting he'd seen on the sea floor that dared try to remake this view. The sky was a deep navy blue and made the little dots look just that more shockingly majestic and sparkly.
He noticed it reflected into the water he was surrounded by hypnotising him by its allure.
He continued to consume the infinite enigmatic surroundings trying his hardest to not blink in case he missed a second of its mystery. The endless supply of glittering dust that the Gods had sprinkled down onto the velvet cape of the sky seemed to promise safety and care in such a simple way.
But in a way the young Prince had hardly ever experienced. He couldn't move but he didn't want to ever again anyway. He doubted he ever would unless he was forced.
"Hi mum. " he whispered to her hoping so much that she was listening. "Your stunning, this world didn't do you justice. Hope your doing well, you deserve it more then anyone. "
Before he fell back in to his awe filled silence. He don't know how long he stayed there just staring into the gateway to the heavens but it was long enough to ensure he didn't notice the giant beast of a ship sail up behind him.
But he did notice the delicately robust singing that came with it:"Mighty young captain,
Bold on the sea,
Soldier and sailor,
Free of disease,
On water we travel,
Still trying to breathe,
Looking for gems,
They sparkle and scream,
Thy creatures they wither,
Down under our feet,
Mighty young captain,
Bold on the sea,
Into the horizon,
From the world we flee. "He began to hum along with the light tune as the little glowing dots continued to pull him deeper into their trance that nothing could pull him out of. He pulled up the small metal object he'd found a while ago in the fire of his bedroom and held it up in front of the large glowing circle in the sky. He smiled at how much it radiated in a new form of luminescence. The brunette tied it to the black string and held it tight to make sure his mum was always going to be there.
"SIREN!" One of the musically gifted voices screamed.
A heavy metal net was suddenly thrown over him. He screamed a pierced cry frozen by shock and then quickly came back to his senses and wriggled relentlessly, trying to escape its iron claws.
"PULL IT UP! NOW!" Another cried as the Prince continued to hopelessly claw his webbed hands against the metal knives, they slit at his hands like he had tried to start a fight with a wrecking ball that was slowly tightening round him, suffocating his entire body from hope and his sanity alike.
Once as a child he'd been playing with some sea eels and they're wrapped themselves tightly around him in a game of hide and seek that had caused him to laugh hidden in the middle of childhood innocence and protection. Only now was it coming back in waves of nostalgia causing him both mental and physical pain in the most unimaginable of ways.
His body began to be lifted from the sea and into the cold open air pushing all its weight down upon him.
Higher and higher he went until he felt like he couldn't breathe, his gills flapping at his pale neck backing up his fear.
He finally saw the giant monster that he was being pulled towards causing him to struggle with even more sporadic desperation. His tail was being cut as well as his arms, the more he struggled the more he suffered to its clutches so soon he gave up and curled up in to a limp ball holding his bleeding tail and trying not to scream even more.
Soon realising it was a ship like the ones he saw in many paintings in real life sunken ships littering the sea bed. They were no where near as scary as this one the large vessel darkness illuminated by the faint glow of the large dot now covered in miserable looking clouds and a few murky yellow lanterns on the thing itself.
Two giant sails, both a old patched up white with a black flag at the very top of the mast completed with a yellow smily face someone had painted on a long while ago.He was pulled up over the top of the side of the ship and could see some weird half siren people except they had two tails instead of one and they weren't really tails at all.
"Humans!" He gasped softly at the terror of this anywhere but comfortable situation.
"Holy crab I'm going to die. "The net was lowered onto the ships deck and the weight of the net crashed down onto him as the Prince lay on the dry, crusty deck.
He looked up at his captures catching one of their eyes and stifled down a scream. He couldn't breathe.
