Derrik's POV
It was around 6:00 in the morning. I woke up, stretching. As I recalled the events of the previous day, I was smiling o myself. Not just because Daniella cared for me, but because I could hear my wolf barking at me to get the heck out of bed! Damn! He was feeling better already! This is certainly good news!
I did just that and rushed down to the hall, where I saw everyone shocked at my sudden burst of energy this morning. They stare at me, not just because I was so excited, but because I seemed to have interrupted something important. A long silence fell.
"Uhh... Should I leave? Or...?" I asked, unsure.
"Uh, no issues. Come on. Let's go get Danny and Darra.", replied Leah. Surprisingly, she seemed pretty chill with Danny and Darra now. I wonder what happened. Weary of this sudden change, I reluctantly agreed to come with her.
I mind linked Matthew to make sure all is well.
Me: Hey, Matt!
Matthew: Yea. I know what you're thinking. She's much more friendly towards Danny and Darra. Long story short, they get along now.
Me: Okay... I'm still unsure, but alright.
We were almost there when I saw something zip through the trees. It was odd that I didn't catch what it was. It was very fast. Even by werewolf standards! I decided to ignore it, hoping it was just a trick of the light or my imagination.
We reached their home. I could smell something off... Something foreign... Something bad...
We knocked, but no one answered, so we helped ourselves in. No one was home. That's odd. I swear I could smell my mate... She was nearby... But where?!
"Danny?", I asked. No reply. "Hey, Dan! You there? Darra?!", Leah called out. No response.
We began looking for them frantically. It was technically trespassing and an invasion of privacy, but I needed to know she was okay.
Where had they gone?
Daniella's POV
I was thinking about Derrik when I heard him downstairs. He had turned back to normal! WOW! I knew that he had left a while ago, but I also knew that he'd have a reason for doing so.
As for what I was doing in his room... I don't know. I honestly have no idea. It just felt good. Sitting on his bed, with its perfectly set chocolate brown covers felt good. I knew he would come here soon, wondering what I was doing here. I didn't want it to seem wrong or anything, so I got up, to leave the room.
And that's when the door opened. I struggled to find my words to explain what I was doing as I stuttered "I-I'm sorry. I just-", but he cut me off, "No worries. You're my mate, after all." I smiled at his understanding. Hearing him say that I'm his mate made butterflies erupt in my stomach. What is wrong with me?! I never felt this way towards him! Not until now, at least.
After thinking for a bit, he said, "I thought you'd be back home, to get away from this... incident?" I wondered why I didn't, but the words seemed to roll off my tongue, "N-No, I was too worried." This sentence would never have come to me intentionally, but it sure was true. I couldn't deny it if I wanted to. With a small "Thanks.", he came to me and hugged me. I was too stunned to act for a moment, but then I wrapped my hands around his neck and my hands started to wander off on their own, rubbing his back in soothing strokes.
After being in that position for a while, I tried to break away, but his strong hands kept me in place. He needed me for a while. I didn't mind. I really didn't mind. I relished this moment, making sure I remembered every bit of it once it became a mere memory.
I slightly pulled away, not wanting to be out of this comfortable position, resting my forehead on his. "Thank you so much, Dan.", he said. "You're welcome, Derrik.", I replied. Damn I was so close to him! I could smell him. Our breaths were mixing together, but I dared not make a move. Oh, how I wanted to kiss him right now, but I was afraid.
He broke away, much to my disappointment, but I tried not to show it. He smiled at me and I smiled back. He murmured something about having to take a bath, and I took it as my cue to leave.
I made my way downstairs to see no one but Leah. I guess everyone else must have turned in for the night. This gave me an opportunity to talk to her about why she was being such a prick to me. I mean - sure, I was a vampire, but I was also her Beta's mate. The least she could do was trust me.
"Hey." I said, hoping to start conversation. "Hey.", she replied. Seemingly uninterested. She was lost in thought staring at me when suddenly, she spoke, "I'm sorry for being a prick, but my family has a rough history with vampires. I know you are wondering why I don't trust you even though you are Derrik's mate. I'm sorry, Daniella."
To say I was surprised was an understatement. I was utterly shocked at what I heard. Not just because Leah apologized, but also because it was as if she read my mind! "I-It's okay..." I stuttered. "Call me Dan, or Danny." I added, feeling more comfortable around her as she smiled. My jaw dropped for the second time this evening. She smiled?! She can smile?! Woah.
I went back home and snuggled into my bed, feeling warm about all that went down that day. I couldn't shake off the comfort I felt in Derrik's hands today. I just missed it already.
