Chapter 28 - Planning the mission

Eren opened his eyes to find a body on top of him, the familiar smell filling his nostrils. The soft skin pressing against his almost made all his worries disappear, this was his heaven, but he knew it wouldn't stay like this, it couldn't stay like this. Not now. "E-eren?" Annie rose slowly off Eren's chest, she rubbed her eyes as she sat on Eren's lower torso, her legs at his sides.

"Morning," Eren smiled as he stared at the beauty that was bestowed before him. "sleep well?" Before Annie answered, she reached above her head, stretching her arms. Eren cocked an eyebrow and let out a small giggle.

"What's funny?" Annie asked with a smile.

"You haven't realised?" Eren nodded at Annie's chest which was unclothed, exposing all. This caused Annie to blush and cover her self with her arms, she then proceeded to punch Eren softly in the chest.

"Don't tease me." The two shared a smile and just in that moment a ray of sun traveled through the window and projected itself on Annie's tanned body, only adding to her beauty.

"Come on, let's go and get some breakfast."

- In the kitchen -

"To be honest, I don't know what to think about it." Reiner spoke in between bites of his toast.

"I hear that," Ymir responded as she buttered some toast and handed it to Bert. "I guess we don't have a choice, they sort of forced it onto us."

"Speaking of, where are they?"

"Outside. They said they had some exercise to do before the mission."

"I'm really not looking forward to this mission. I don't exactly want to die today."

"Come on, no ones going to die." Eren butted in as he entered the room. "Morning."

"Want some toast?" Ymir asked.

"Yes please." Eren and Annie responded.

"You two seem to be getting close." Reiner smiled at the two. "Seriously, you could have kept it down last night."

"Shit." Eren responded as his face went pale and Annie, who had just taken a bite out of her toast, almost spat her food out. The two looked at each other and their faces flushed red, causing The three others to laugh.

"In all seriousness though, I don't think any of us really mind, what you do in your own time is up to you." Reiner paused for a second and winked at Eren. "And I think we all know what you do in your spare time." Yet again, the three burst into laughter while Eren smiled awkwardly and Annie covered her flustered face with the sleeve of her hoodie. Finishing her laugh, Ymir handed Eren a piece of toast.

"Thanks." Eren responded, still smiling awkwardly. He brought the toast to his mouth, but before he could take a bite, a hand shot up and plucked the toast from Eren's grasp. "What the...?"

"Thanks." It was Levi, the corporal. He entered the room followed by commander Erwin.

"I hope you're all prepared for the mission?" Erwin questioned.

"We think so." Reiner responded with a not-so-certain tone to his voice.

"Good. We will be setting off and scouting the area, get ready and meet us at the rendezvous point." The group nodded in acknowledgement. Their laughs had disappeared and their expressions turned serious. Shit was about to go down.

- At the rendezvous point, one hour later -

"Eight guards outside, two trucks have entered, unknown numbers inside." Erwin informed everyone, his blonde hair waving violently in the intense wind. "My team and I will clear out the guards outside, we will then fire a flare when we have finished, as soon as you see the flare, Eren and Bertholdt will go round the back and infiltrate, Reiner, Ymir and Annie will blow up the front doors with these explosives, it is your job to create a distraction and draw out all the God damn traitors in that building."

"Wait, how do I use this thing?" Bert asked looking at his gun with a confused face.

"Point and shoot." A tall man replied while using a cloth to clean his silenced sniper rifle. "Easy."

"Mike." Erwin perked up, alerting the man with the sniper rifle. "You stay here and take the first shot, you'll start it all off."

"With pleasure." Mike stood and and took a deep breath, then smelt his freshly cleaned gun. "Perfect." Eren and the others stared with confusion as to what they just witnessed.

"I wouldn't worry about it if I were you." Erwin spoke while smiling, patting Eren on the back. "He does it all the time. Anyway, let's set up." As soon as he finished, Erwin's team began to move, leaving Mike with Eren and the others.

"Hey... Umm... Mike is it?" Reiner asked.

"Yes." Mike spoke while adjusting the aim on his scope.

"What are these?" Reiner pointed at what looked like a package.

"C-4. Explosives. You'll use them to breach and infiltrate."

"So we just set these on the door and run?"

"No. Set them on the door and take cover behind that wall." Mike pointed at a small but thick wall about 15 feet away from the doors. "Hide behind, blow the C-4 and brace yourselves, after that, my team will come in and back you up."

"Seems simple enough."

"It is." Mike spoke, now laying on the ground and lining up his sniper rifle.

After a couple of minutes, Eren and Bert left and headed around the back of the building. Leaving Mike, Annie, Ymir and Reiner stood in an awkward silence.

6 minutes passed.

"They're ready." Mike eventually spoke to break the silence. Everyone else perked up, readying their guns, Reiner held the explosives. Sweat dripping down all their faces. All except Mike who took a deep breath, held it for a couple of second and pulled the trigger. His gun recoiled and jolted his shoulder. What then played out was the work of the professionals, bodies began and drop and shouting was quickly stopped by muffled gunshots. "Move out." They all ran to the door, careful as to not make any noise.

The four reached the wall and took cover, allowing Reiner to quietly run out and place the C-4 in front of the door. Reaching the wall again, Reiner gripped the detonator, his hand shaking. "Deep breaths." Mike said calmly, resting a hand on Reiner's shoulder. "Three. Two. One." Mike nodded and Reiner closed his eyes, pressing the button. The doors blew open.

Eren and Bert headed to the back wall and rested their for a few minutes. "This is crazy." Bert nervously spoke.

"Tell me about it. I don't really want to die here today." Eren replied in the same nervous tone.

"I've got something I need to tell someone."

"Oh? Someone special?"

"Yeah." Bert smiled. "Hey, Eren?"

"What's up?"

"Can I tell you something?"

"Sure."

"I think that... I think that I'm in love."

"Holy shit, with who?"

"Well... This might be a bit of a shock but..."

"I think I know who."

"You're probably wrong."

"Really? Well I think it's pretty obvious, the way you look at him, the way you go all nervous around him."

"So you knew?"

"Well I'm pretty sure Reiner is available."

"Thanks, but you don't think it's weird?"

"Fuck no. You be whatever sexuality you want to be, it doesn't affect you as a person, and besides, only homophobic people are assholes."

"Thanks, Eren. I appreci..." Before Bert could finish, the C-4 blew up, that was their cue.

"Let's go." Bert nodded and the two entered through a window. They were in.
