Different Kind of Love

Chapter 29 - The mission

Eren climbed through the window and softly landed on his feet, making a light tapping sound against the concrete floor. He turned to help Bert through the window and brought him gently on to the floor. Eren looked around and found himself in a bathroom, it was very dirty and there was debris everywhere, it reminded him of the factory where he saved Christa. "Shall we go?" Eren asked, Bert responded with a nod and the two headed though the door and into a maze of corridors.

Moving through the corridors, Mike and Reiner led while Annie and Ymir hung back. It took a couple of minutes for the four to run into the first enemy, they were about to step around a corner when the enemy ran out and hit Reiner, knocking him to the floor. But before he could shoot him, Mike reacted by drawing his pistol and shooting the man in head. "Always be on your guard." He warned, helping Reiner back to his feet. Reiner dusted himself off and followed Mike who led the small group as they made their way deeper into the building.

"Mike?" Reiner nervously asked.

"What?"

"What did they do?"

"The military police? They are corrupt, they use loopholes to gain the most money possible and steal from the public. They run this country, but we plan and changing that."

"Sounds pretty serious."

"It is, but th..." Mike was interrupted by a gunshot. The bullet travelled through his chest, escaping through the other side. Mike paused for a second until he coughed and blood began pouring from his mouth, he then collapsed, leaving Reiner, Ymir and Annie stood, frozen with fear. The three were soon surrounded by an enemy group, barking commands at them. The three came back to reality, they all stared at each other and nodded, almost instantaneously, the three brought up their guns and fired. Shots landed and killed a few men, however their inexperience and lack of accuracy was their downfall. The enemy returned for and filled Ymir with bullets, her limp body falling to the floor, connecting harshly and making a loud slapping noise. Reiner and Annie stopped firing to watch the lifeless body of their new friend drop. The enemies shouted for the two to drop their weapons to which they quickly obliged, they didn't want to die today.

The two were taken down a long corridor that seemed to last forever, the silence driving them crazy. The two were scared, for the first time in their lives they were genuinely scared. Reiner didn't want to go, he still hadn't finished his goal, and Annie had found peace, she didn't want to be away from Eren, the man she loved. A tear began to drop down her face. "Eren..." She began to whisper. A few minutes later and the group had led Reiner and Annie to a room, where there were two chairs in the middle with leather binds on the arms. One of the men who escorted them spoke. "Don't worry, we won't kill you, but we will make your life a living hell, after all, you are monsters." The man laughed hysterically and pushed Annie to the ground. But before he could proceed any further, a voice called out from the entrance of the room.

"We are not monsters." The voice was followed by gunshots that fired at the men, none of them were fast enough to get out of the way. They all died. "Are you ok?" Annie could recognise that voice any where."

"Yes... Thank you, Eren." Annie replied as she looked up and smiled at her saviour's face. She wrapped her arms around his muscular body and embraced the warmth.

"Come on, we aren't done yet."

"Eren... Y-Ymir is..."

"She's what?"

"She's... dead, Eren..."

"W-what..?" Eren grew angry. "Shit. Fuck! Dammit Ymir."

"What do we do now?"

"Well," Eren took a deep breath to calm himself down" like I said, we aren't done yet, we need to get the mission done." Eren looked over to where Reiner was being dusted off by Bert. "You ok, Reiner?"

"Yeah." Reiner replied whilst wiping sweat from his brow. "I'm alive."

"Are we all ready?" The group nodded in unison and they headed out to finish the mission. But Eren had a different goal in mind. He wasn't going to let another one of his friends die.
