Emelia guessed she must've looked like a crazy person as she stared at the scarlet train in front of her with eyes the size of dinner plates. She'd just run through a wall like a maniac to reach platform 9¾ with her trolley in hand.

She saw parents hugging their children one last time before the new school year started. It made her ache for her parents, who were back in the Muggle world. She'd said goodbye to them before professor McGonagall came to escort her to the platform.

She went to an open door of the train after watching a family of redheads come through the wall and started the search for an empty compartment.

The seats were surprisingly comfortable, Emelia noted as she sat down. Multiple people passed her compartment, a few staring as they went by.

As the train started rolling on the tracks, her compartment door opened abruptly, and Emelia jumped.

A blonde girl who looked her age stepped inside. "Can I sit with you? Everywhere else is full."

Emelia nodded and silently gestured for her to sit on the other bench.

"I'm Hannah Abbott, what's your name?"

"Emelia Clermont." The girl shifted uncomfortably as she spoke. Small talk with strangers wasn't exactly her forte.

The blonde looked pensive as she asked, "Clermont? I haven't heard that one before. Are you muggleborn?"

"M- muggleborn? Is that something bad?" Emelia panicked.

The girl laughed. "No, not at all. Wizards just like to classify people."

"What?" she got more confused by the minute.

"There's muggleborns, like you. They have muggle parents, but somewhere down the line there must've been a magical being, making it possible for you to be a witch."

Emelia nodded. She did have two normal -or well, muggle, as wizards call it- parents, so it added up.

"Then there are half-bloods, like me. They have two non-pureblood parents. My mother is a half-blood too. Then, finally, there are purebloods."

Emelia felt a sense of inexplicable dread at the word.

"They have two pureblood parents, making it possible for them to be a pureblood. There aren't a lot of them left, though."

The brunette nodded at the information, storing it away. If she wanted to incorporate herself into the wizarding community, she'd have to know as much as possible.

"You've got to watch out for purebloods, though."

Emelia's blue eyes widened. "Why? Are they dangerous?"
