The three looked down and followed the paw print on the floor to a pair of filthy human feet. They looked up slowly at the man standing in the shadows. Filthy, matted hair hung to his shoulders. His skin was like a corpse.

So that was Sirius Black, concluded Emelia.

The criminal studied Harry's face keenly as the boy drew his wand.

Hermione jumped in front of them. "If you want to kill Harry, you'll –you'll have to kill us, too!"

"No." The deep baritone of the man reverberated through the shack. "Only one will die tonight."

Emelia swallowed, troubled at the man's words. Harry, however, responded with fire in his voice, "Then it'll be you!"

"Harry!" yelled Hermione, "No!"

Just then, footsteps sounded. Black wheeled toward the door, edgy. Harry eyed the man, wand hand shaking violently. As Black turned back, he stopped and regarded Harry cautiously.

"Going to kill me, Harry?"

"Yes."

As he raised his wand, the door crashed open, revealing Lupin.

Emelia watched, confused, as her Professor and Black engaged in conversation as if they'd been friends for years.

"Looking a bit ragged, aren't we, Sirius? Finally, the skin reflects the madness within."

"You'd know all about the madness within, wouldn't you, Remus?"

The two regarded each other, the moment taut with tension, then Lupin stepped forward and embraced Black like a brother.

"No!" yelled Hermione. "I trusted you! I covered up for you. And all this time you've been his friend!" She pointed at Lupin, "He's a werewolf! That's why he's been missing classes!"

Harry and Ron stared at their Professor, dumbfounded. Emelia just shook her head, the pieces finally fitting. She'd had an inkling ever since Snape's essay about werewolves, but wasn't exactly sure.

Black howled then, bitterly amused. Lupin eyed him, then turned back.

"How long have you known?"

"Since Professor Snape set the essay."

Emelia snorted, "He wasn't exactly being subtle about it."

Lupin gauged Hermione, "You're the brightest witch of your age I've ever met, Hermione."

"Yes, you glow like the sun. And you howl at the moon. Enough talk! He dies. Now. If you won't dot it with me, Remus, I'll do it alone."

"Wait, Sirius–" Lupin got interrupted.
