JARVIS woke me early the next morning, apparently Captain America never sleeps and likes to workout at ridiculous hours of the morning. I made my way to the training room and ran a few laps with Steve before continuing my self-defense training. Steve got a hit in that knocked me to the ground.
He reached out his hand to help me up "You're getting better Y/N, just can't let your guard down."
"I know, I need to focus. I swear I'm trying!"
Steve laughed "I know Y/N, I'm not judging you, you'll be ready for missions in no time."
Steve seemed to always have a way to reassure me no matter how useless I felt. We continued with our little drills until we heard someone clear their throat.
Tony was standing in the doorway "Looking good so far Sparky! You'll be a pro in no time. Man, they grow up so fast don't they Steve?!" Tony was wiping away fake tears
I playfully bumped into Tony on my way to grab a water "When did you and Steve become my parents?"
"I'm the dad in this scenario, right? That makes more sense to me. Steve has a...feminine/motherly love about him. I'm far too masculine."
Steve just rolled his eyes "Tony, did you need anything other than to poke fun at me?"
"Oh yeah, I need you and Y/N in the conference room. Time to discuss magic training. Muscles and Professor Snape will meet us there." Steve and I both looked at each other with confused looks.
Tony looked appalled "Really? Ugh. Right, I'm talking to the only two people who haven't seen Harry Potter. Snape is Loki. Trust me, if you knew the reference you'd be laughing your asses off right now."
Tony led the way out of the training room mumbling something about us not knowing pop culture references. We made our way to the conference room where Thor and Loki were already waiting for us. Loki was no longer in his chains and handcuffs, but had a silver band around his right wrist. This must be the limiter that Stark was talking about.
Thor walked right over to me and gave me a big hug "Lady Y/N! Good morning! Are you excited to begin working on your magic?"
I couldn't help but laugh at Thor's enthusiasm "Again Thor, just Y/N is fine. I am excited actually, although I'm a little nervous. Last time I tried, I ended up passing out."
Steve looked apologetic "I think that was mainly because I had no idea what I was doing. Sorry again Y/N."
I waved him off "No need to apologize, things happen. So, how is this going to work exactly?"
Tony took that opportunity to step forward "Right. So, the only person in this tower that uses magic would be Reindeer Games. Now, if I had a choice, I would not have him anywhere near you let alone teaching you."
Steve gave Tony a look of warning "Tony, I know you don't like it but we need to start somewhere."
Tony rolled his eyes "You didn't let me finish Ice Pop. I don't like it, but it's better than nothing. You will be closely monitored Reindeer Games. The second you step a toe out of line, this is over. Capiche?"
Loki just looked bored "I wouldn't hurt Lady Y/N, she's the only person here other than the oaf that's been kind to me." He gave me a slight nod at that
I smiled and turned to Tony "I'll be alright Tony, you and mom need to let me leave the nest at some point" I gave him and Steve a wink
Tony and Steve laughed at that and it seemed to ease the tension in the room a bit. They both wished me luck and went off to brood or whatever it is that they do. I followed Thor and Loki down to the training room. Loki was allowed to teach me, but Thor had to be there to supervise in case something went wrong. Thor walked over to the chair in the corner and gave me a thumbs up. Loki led me to the middle of the room and sat down crossed legged. I decided to copy his movements and sat as well.
Loki looked at me once I sat "So. Magic. It is a part of you, you just have to know how to speak to it and draw it out."
I looked at him with my brows furrowed "You make it sound so easy. How am I supposed to do that?"
He laughed at that "Patience darling, it will take some time and practice."
I immediately turned red by his new nickname for me and looked down at the mat to attempt to hide it. He grabbed my hands and placed them face up on my legs and then he did the same. He closed his eyes and slowly a green haze appeared around him and little ball of green smoke was in his right hand. I gasped and reached out to touch it.
Loki opened his eyes and smirked "Once you know how to call on your magic, it barely takes any thought. You'll eventually be able to do the same."
I looked over to see if Thor was watching us, he was too busy tossing his hammer around so I looked back at Loki and whispered "I thought they took away your magic..."
He leaned in close enough to make me stop breathing "They limited my magic, they can't take it away fully. It is a part of me, darling."
I nodded in understanding and Loki leaned back and looked at me with a pointed look "Your turn"
Taking a deep breath, I closed my eyes and tried to concentrate on picturing what Loki did. It felt like I was sitting like that for hours, but eventually I imagined a ball of energy in my hand and suddenly felt a buzz around my body. I opened my eyes to see Loki smirking at me and he looked down at my hands. My gaze followed his and I realized I had a golden orb sitting in my right palm. I couldn't contain my excitement, I jumped up and threw my arms around Loki's neck. He stiffened, but eventually hugged me back. Once I realized what I had done, I shuffled back and apologized.
Loki just gave a small laugh "That was impressive love, we'll work on more tomorrow. Using magic is draining and I don't want to overwhelm you. Also, It looks like the oaf fell asleep." He said while motioning to Thor in the corner who was indeed fast asleep and using his cape as a blanket.
While Loki went to wake up Thor, I headed back up to my room to take a shower before dinner. Right on schedule I heard JARVIS announce that dinner was ready so I headed back up to the main floor to join everyone. Steve called me over to sit by him and served me a plate. I thanked him and immediately dug in, I was starving after my workout.
Tony clapped his hands together and gave me a questioning look "So...how'd it go Sparky? Did you end up electrocuting him? Please tell me you at least gave him a little zap!"
"Sorry to disappoint Tony, there was no electrocuting this time. I was able to hold my magic in my hand though! It was amazing!"
Everyone laughed at how excited I was and all congratulated me. We sat around talking while we ate and Natasha helped me clear the table and wash the dishes. Once I was done, I made a plate of food and headed up to Loki's room to bring him dinner. It seemed like the least I could do for helping me. I knocked on his door and he quickly opened it and motioned for me to come in. I placed the plate down on the coffee table and went to leave, but Loki stopped me.
"Would you care to join me?"
"I'd love to" I walked back over to the couch and took a seat. Loki came and sat next to me and picked up his plate to start eating. "Thank you for teaching me today, it means a lot to me. It's frustrating to know I can do all of these things, but not know how to."
"Yes, I can imagine that would be irritating. Soon enough you'll be able to do to more than you think capable. I can tell that your magic is strong." He gave a small smile and continued eating.
We sat there talking about different types of magic while he finished his dinner. It was nice spending time with him, I enjoyed his company. Eventually, I started feeling as if I was over staying my welcome, so I grabbed his empty plate and started to walk out. "Thanks again for today, I'll see you tomorrow for more training?"
He nodded "Yes, I will see you tomorrow. Goodnight Lady Y/N."
"Goodnight Loki"
I went back to my room and fell asleep thinking about my little orb of magic and how excited I was to learn more.
