The next morning I kept my word to Bucky and sat on his bed telling him about what happened with Loki and he told me all about his date with Steve. Bucky told me that he almost made it the whole night without telling him, but right before they headed inside he just kissed Steve and blurted out his feelings for him. It really made me wish I had been there to see this all unfold. After sitting with Bucky most of the morning, I decided to go to the lab to try and sneak Tony's credit card back in his wallet. I was in luck, Tony was asleep in his chair so I very quietly tip-toed over to him and took his wallet out of his pocket. After putting the wallet back in his pocket I quickly ran away to the training room. Steve was the only one in there and smiled at me when I walked in.
I couldn't help myself and gave him a grin and wiggled my eyebrows at him "So...how was your night?!"
"I'm assuming by that crazy expression on your face that you already know the answer to that question"
"True, but I wanted to hear from you that you're not just stringing along my friend"
"You don't have to worry about that Y/N, it's always been Bucky..."
Steve and I decided to run some laps and warmups since I hadn't trained for a few days. Once he was satisfied with our warmups we got right to sparring. I tried to keep up with Steve, but my days off were really showing. Steve was going easy on me, but I still left the room exhausted and sore. I was just about to go take a shower when JARVIS called everyone to the conference room. Nat, Bruce, Thor, Tony and Clint were already there when Steve and I entered the room. I sat next to Thor while Steve went over by Nat, Tony was standing at the end of the conference table pulling up images on the TV screen.
Tony looked up at all of us "Right. So, we've got another mission and this one is going to be all hands on deck."
I noticed that we were missing two people "Tony?"
"Yeah, Sparky?"
"You said it's all hands on deck so where are Loki and Bucky?"
Tony hesitated and rubbed the back of his neck "Listen. It's nothing personal, but Reindeer Games is still on house arrest and Bucky...well, his mind was scrambled eggs just a few days ago"
Steve glared at Tony "Watch it, Stark"
"I said it's nothing personal! That doesn't mean that I'm willing to take any chances though"
Thor took the opportunity to stand up, getting everyone's attention "The Man of Iron is right. If we have people with us that are not trusted by everyone, it will only hinder the team and in turn, the mission. It is safer for now, for everyone."
Tony looked shocked that Thor had backed him up. Thor sat back down and motioned for Tony to continue "Anyway, as I was saying, we have gotten intel from S.H.I.E.L.D that the scepter has been located. Another reason I wasn't involving Reindeer Games on this one..."
That got me mad "Right. Because if Loki came with us he would immediately turn on us, grab the scepter and try to take over Earth again. That's what you're thinking, isn't it?" No one answered "You're all unbelievable. He's here to make amends and help the team. How can he do that if he's never even given the chance to try?!" Still no answers. I took the opportunity to storm out of the room.
Thor ran after me and grabbed my arm to stop me "My lady, I understand your anger, but please try and see it from their perspective"
I scoffed "You're agreeing with him? He's your brother, Thor."
"Yes, but you also weren't here the first time they met Loki. It was chaos and didn't exactly paint Loki in the best light. I'm just saying that you need to understand where their hesitation is coming from."
"Fine. I still don't like it though and Loki's not going to like it either."
"Aye. He's most likely not going to take it well. Would you like me to come with you to speak with him?"
"No, it's probably best that I go alone. Did Tony say when we need to head out?"
"You have twenty minutes" I nodded and made my way to Loki's room. I couldn't help but smile that he was back to leaving his door slightly ajar. I gave a quick knock before pushing the door open and stepping inside. Loki was on the couch and quickly shut his book when he saw me walk in. He met me halfway, pulling me in for a hug and kissed the top of my head.
I was holding him so tight that he pulled my arms off of him and stepped back to look at me "Darling, is everything alright?"
I sighed "No. Well, yeah. But, also no"
He laughed "You really are quite difficult to talk to sometimes. Come, tell me what's going on."
Loki pulled me over to the couch and waited for me to explain "We have another mission. You're not allowed to come with us though, neither is Bucky, because we're retrieving the scepter..."
"I see. They don't trust me to not be tempted to take it for myself?"
I looked down at the ground and nodded "I tried to argue, but it was no use."
"I can't say that I'm surprised. I don't like the idea of you going on this mission without me either. How will I know if you're being kept safe?"
I laughed "I'm an Avenger, Loki. I can look after myself and we all have each others backs. I'll be just fine." I gave him a bright smile to show that I wasn't worried about the mission.
Loki looked like he wanted to protest, but instead got up and walked over to his bedside table and grabbed a small box out of it. He walked back over to me and handed me the box "I was going to wait to give this to you, but it seems like as good a time as any."
I opened the box to see a beautiful necklace inside. It was a simple gold chain with a small emerald pendant. "Thank you, it's beautiful!"
Loki took the necklace from me and motioned for me to turn so he could put it on. He kissed my neck and held me tightly from behind "There's something else about this necklace. I have enchanted it with my magic so that I will be able to know your location should you ever be in trouble."
"Silly overprotective trickster. I will wear your little charm if you promise not to get into trouble while I'm gone"
"I will try my best, love. Kindly do not get hurt on this mission or I shall be quite cross with you"
"I will try my best" I turned around and kissed him before heading out to the helipad.
Everyone was just heading into the Quinjet when I got there, I followed them in and took a seat next to Thor. Tony continued to give us more information on where we were headed and what our game plan was. Thor and Clint were to take the high ground and clear a path for us to get in. Steve and Nat were to head in through the East entrance while Tony and I were to take the West. Bruce was on standby until we called for a "code green". We had a general idea of where the scepter was located, but we weren't sure how secure they kept it. As soon as we landed we all jumped into action and made our way inside. Everything was going well until we came up on the room containing the scepter. It was just sitting on a table, out in the open with nothing around. Sounds easy, right? Wrong. This was a trap and it was designed just for us. Someone grabbed me from behind, but dropped me when I shocked them. I thought that would give me the upper hand to get away, but they apparently planned for this. Another soldier ran at me with a big mesh blanket and wrapped me in it. Whatever it was made out of made it impossible for me to shock them.
I kicked and screamed, trying to get away, but it was no use. They were too strong. I was carried to a dark room and shoved into a chair. The soldiers quickly tied my arms down and put tape over my mouth while ripping my ear piece out of my ear and smashing it on the ground. After I was thoroughly tied up, they left me in the room alone. All I could think of was how quickly I broke my promise to Loki that I'd be ok.
After what felt like hours, two armed men came into the room and untied me from the chair. They put handcuffs on me and pulled me out of the room. I tried to fight back, but their grips on my arms only tightened and made them pull me harder. I was led through the compound and eventually thrown into the back of a van. They clearly didn't want me to pay any attention to where we were going because they put a black bag over my head before knocking me unconscious.
