"Inej should be back in about three days, do we wanna throw a party or anything?" Nina asked, sitting on the arm of the couch.
"She'll be exhausted, but I have something planned for the following day." Kaz shuffled a deck of cards.
"What is it?" Jesper snatched the deck from Kaz.
"Nothing to do with the rest of you." Kaz narrowed his eyes at Jesper.
"Ooooooooooo, did Kazzle Dazzle plan a date?" Jesper teased.
"Jesper, I am going to hit you over the head with this cane and you'll-"
"Ooookay, Jesper, leave the topic alone." Wylan lightly punched him in the shoulder.
The sound of a key turning in the door made Kaz's brows furrow, "Who the hell is here?"
Nina shrugged and stood up to check. When she opened the door, she gasped, "Inej!"
Kaz stood and went over to the door as well, seeing Inej hug Nina. "We got back early, it all went quite smooth and we caught the guy we were out for," Inej explained when the two pulled away.
"Welcome back, Inej." Kaz nodded welcomingly.
"Thanks, Kaz." Inej smiled, the two standing there in awkward silence for a slight moment before she greeted Jesper.
"How rough was it out there?" Jesper asked, hugging Inej.
"It was decent, lot of storms though." Inej shrugged, taking her coat off and hanging it on the empty hook by the door.
Inej sat down on the couch, conversing with everyone. Kaz lightly tapped her shoulder as he walked past, before making his way up the stairs.
A few minutes passed before Inej entered. When she did, Kaz motioned for her to sit in one of the chairs at the front of the desk.
She did so, "What business?"
"Inej, I wanted to ask you..." Kaz trailed off, feeling embarrassed.
"Yes?" She raised an eyebrow.
"Would you want to go out?"
Inej nodded, "Of course."
"Just to be clear-"
"I know what you're implying, Kaz."
"How about going out on New Year's Eve? We'll get dinner and can walk around the park and the beach afterwards."
"That sounds wonderful."
"Glad to hear it."
Inej softly smiled before she left the room, quietly shutting the door behind her.
Kaz relaxed his posture, feeling a genuine smile form on his face as he imagined all the new possibilities. Though, as he got deeper into these thoughts, he reminded himself not to be too hopeful. He'd have to be comfortable with the concept of these kinds of feelings, with certain kinds of touch. He didn't know if he had it in him.
