"Hold...on." I tell Dean as I try to catch my breath. I take a minute to even out my breathing so I can get ready to walk again. Dean was definitely as heavy as he looked. It was already dark and we still had at least a two hours walk back to camp. My arm was still throbbing and the blood is slowly seeping though the sleeve Dean used to wrap it.
"Like I said earlier we should find a place to camp out for the night." Dean suggests.
"No, we have to keep going."
"Are you afraid to spend the night out here or somthing?"
"No, I just think the sooner we get help the better. Your ankle isn't getting any better and my arm is still bleeding."
"I know a place near here. I can re-bandage your arm and I can rest my ankle. We can start walking first thing in the morning."
"We need to keep going."
"Why is it so damn important to you that we make it back tonight? I can promise you we will still be alive in the morning. Just stop being so damn stubborn and let me help. After all I've been out here longer than you." We both look at each other his eyes are soft again. "I keep all those people back at camp alive and I don't do it by giving out bad advice. We need to find a place to camp out."
"Fine, let's go." I say grabbing his arm and putting it around my shoulder. After walking a few minutes Dean comes to a hault.
"It should be around here somewhere." He notifies me sequenting his eyes in search of somthing.
"What are you looking for?"
"Before the bombs went off people had underground shelters. Like the compound but smaller. One night I went for a walk and found one. I never told anyone about it."
"Why not?"
"I use it when I need to just take a break from all the issues at camp."
"Being in charge isn't all it creaked up to be huh?
"Not always, no. Maybe when we get back to camp you could help me out? You seem pretty capable."
"They won't listen to me."
"They will if I tell them too." I hear a screeching sound over by Dean. It sounded similar to the vault door opening when I was banished. He must have found it. I walk over to him and help him lift the hatch. He goes down first. Once he's safe at the bottom I make my way down the ladder, and close the hatch. I look around in Dean is lighting candles that sit in random places around the room.
There's one bed in the corner with couple blankets at the end and a side table beside it. In the center on the room there's a table with a few of chairs around it. Even a couple bookshelfs. One had actual books on it the other has a few cans of food and a jug of water.
"What do you think?" Dean asks plopping down on the bed. It surprisingly felt like I was back at the vault. It looked like one of the apartments Kida and I looked at a while back. We planned on being roommates when we got old enough. The only difference is the apartment we looked at a had a bathroom and a kitchen.
"It feels like home back at the compound. I like it. I see why you kept it all to yourself." I say standing awkwardly by the ladder. Being here for some reason just felt like I was intruding
"You can sit down." He smiles and pats the bed.
"Its fine I'll sit in the chair." I say walking over to the table.
"So you going to make a cripple walk over there and rebandage your arm. Here I thought you were a nice person." He says taking his knife and cutting off his other sleeve.
