I was woken up by the sound if my tent being unzipped. I look up to see Jess.

"Hey, Dean wanted me to wake you up."

"What for?" Ask still half asleep.

"He wants you to do some work around camp," That made since. If I was going to be staying here I should contribute somehow.

"What kind if you don't mind my asking?"

"Umm... you can watch the kids, help forage, or do laundry."

"What will you guys be doing?"

"Hunting. Why?"

"How many girls go hunting?"

"Well...none now that I think about it," Jess looked to the ground and began shifting uncomfortably.

"Go figure." I whisper to myself," Where's Dean?"

"He's out by the fire pit." he says pointing out of the tent. I got up and started walking out, but stopped and turned back to Jess when I realized I never thanked him for last night.

"By the way, thank you for saving me the other night."

"No problem,"

"Oh and I'm sorry about your foot."

"No big deal. You didn't go down without a fight. That's good you need that if you want make it out here," He gives me a small but sincere smile and I walk outside. I was little frustrated a Dean; I don know much about him, but I didn't peg him as an 'Pre-War' thinker

"Dean!" I yell as I approach him while he was talking to a few of the other guys.

"What?" he sighs, turning to me. That's when I realize how close I'm standing. I want to take a step back, but at the same time I need to stand my ground. If he thinks I'm scared of him he definitely won't let me come.

"I want to hunt," I state trying to sound confident. It takes everything I have not to break eye contact. Like a snake; his eyes might be beautiful, but that doesn't mean he isn't dangerous. He smirked and cocked on eyebrow at me.

"What are you talking about?"

"Look just because I'm a girl doesn't mean I can't hunt. I'm not good with kids and I'm sure as hell not stick around camp to forage or do laundry. I've been trapped in that compound my entire life and I didn't want to spend the rest of life trapped in this camp."

"Do you know how to use any weapon?"

"Well..." he interrupts before I could answer.

"Do you know how to defend yourself?"

"Well...no." I look to the ground realizing how much of a fool I just made myself out to be.

"That's why you can't hunt it has nothing to do with you being a girl," He turns away and begins walking back to the guys he was talking to before.

"Then teach me," I say before I could even think about it. He stops in his dead in his tracks. He rubs his hand over his face and lets out a sigh

"Fine, but if I do you're not backing out even if it gets tough. Got it?" I smile widely and am filled with excitement.

"You've got a deal." Our eyes lock for a brief moment determination in both. For a second I think I see a slight smile, but he looks back to the guys and waves at them to follow as he heads into the woods. Once they all are swallowed up by the trees a girl with long red hair approaches me. She is a few inches taller than me maybe about 5'5 maybe. She looked about 18 or so. She had bright green eyes and faint freckles on her cheeks.
