~*Chapter 7*~
"Just don't give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is Love and Inspiration, I don't think you can go wrong." -Ella Fitzgerald
The back doors of the ambulance swung open with urgency, and paramedics quickly jumped out, their movements precise and fluid as they carefully unloaded the gurney. You and Yoongi rushed to assist, securing the handles as the injured patient was wheeled out. The paramedics guided the gurney while Nurses Jinsu and Sungmin rapidly gathered information from the lead medic.
Hoseok sprinted back toward the hospital alongside Nurse Lee, likely preparing for anesthesia, while Yugyeom stood by, holding the ER doors open. You exchanged a brief glance with Yoongi before pushing the gurney through the doors, your mind already racing through the necessary protocols.
As you maneuvered the gurney down the corridor, your eyes focused on the patient. He was younger than you expected, possibly late twenties or early thirties, but his face was etched with agony. The intermittent grimace of pain confirmed he was still responsive—a small relief in this critical situation. Brain activity is good, you thought. No immediate signs of neurological damage, meaning the bullet likely hadn't pierced vital neural pathways.
"Get the CT room prepped, stat!" you called out, your voice clear and commanding as you guided the patient toward the nearest bed in the ER. Jinsu, always quick on her feet, was beside you, scribbling furiously on her clipboard, recording vital information as it poured in.
The patient was swiftly transferred from the gurney to the hospital bed, the team working in perfect synchronization. IV lines were promptly established, with fluids dripping steadily to maintain perfusion. You slipped on a pair of surgical gloves as you grabbed a pair of trauma shears, cutting through the patient's blood-soaked shirt with precision.
As you revealed the chest wound, your breath caught for a moment—a single gunshot entry wound just below the left pectoral muscle, dangerously close to the heart. Dark crimson blood had stained his torso, but it wasn't actively spurting, indicating that the bullet had lodged itself within. You worked quickly, your hands steady, peeling the fabric away with Sungmin's assistance, while Yugyeom silently stepped behind you and tied your hair into a tight bun, ensuring it stayed out of your way. You appreciated the gesture; there was no time for distractions now.
