"You guys I'm right here. I can hear everything you're saying."

Dr. Irwin and Dr. Hemmings both looked at me, but Dr. Irwin was the first to speak.

"Sorry, sweetheart. We were just trying to figure out the best solution for you. You also just had lunch so we can't do anesthesia."

"Can't there be a temporary solution for now? What if I come back tomorrow morning?" I asked, pleading with him.

"It doesn't work like that, sweetheart. Plus I'm not sure if Dr. Hemmings has an appointment slot for you tomorrow." Dr. Irwin said, looking to Dr. Hemmings who was looking back at my x-rays.

When Dr. Hemmings heard silence between us, he turned around to see Dr. Irwin looking at him.

"I guess I can do your appointment early in the morning. But I have to give you a temporary fix tonight, even though I hate to wait til tomorrow; it increases the risk of infection."

"Please, Dr. Hemmings."

Dr. Hemmings took a deep breath and looked down at the ground and then back up to me.

"I'll do it. But you have to come to my office at 8:00 tomorrow morning."

I just nodded my head in reply. I'll do anything to get out of this chair.

Dr. Hemmings washed his hands, slipped on gloves, and tied a mask around his face looking at my x-rays one last time.

Dr. Irwin rolled a chair next to me but he just sat there and watched Dr. Hemmings prepare.

I closed my eyes not even wanting to know what Dr. Hemmings was going to do.

"Alright, McKenna. I'm going to start now. You'll feel some slight discomfort as I figure out the best way to temporarily fix this."

"Don't explain it. Just please do it and get it over with." I kept my eyes closed.

"I'll try my best. Open please, sweetheart.

I opened my mouth and let Dr. Hemmings do whatever he needed to do. I hope it wasn't a lot. I just want to go home.

I could feel Dr. Irwin on my right as Dr. Hemmings worked on my left.

It was a few minutes before I felt Dr. Hemmings take his tools out of my mouth. I could hear him searching through drawers.

I opened my eyes and was met with Dr. Irwin looking back at me.

"What's he doing?" I whispered to Dr. Irwin, but I guess Dr. Hemmings heard me.

"I'm worried about your jaw getting tired. Is it alright if I put in a mouth prop?" Dr. Hemmings spoke up, holding a mouth prop in his hand.

I slowly nodded my head, looking at Dr. Irwin.

I closed my eyes again and opened my mouth, feeling Dr. Irwin pull my chin down further as Dr. Hemmings slipped in a mouth prop.

I tried not to pay attention to where they were doing but every so often I would feel a sharp pain from Dr. Hemmings poking and prodding my chipped teeth.

I don't know how long it was before I heard him sigh and take his tools out of my mouth.

I opened my eyes and closed my mouth, looking to Dr. Hemmings.

"That's all I can do for today without putting you in more pain. Everything else I need to do I want to put you out or give you lidocaine. So we'll wait to do that tomorrow. You have to meet me at my office at 8:00, no later. Let me give you my address and my phone number in case anything happens before then."

Luke gave me all his information and I tried my hardest not to run my tongue along my chipped teeth in my mouth.

"Uhm. Dr. Irwin, one slight problem. My car is still at the cafe."
