Oh my god.

I recognized that voice anywhere.

"Oh, Dr. Irwin, hi."

He looked down at me, smiling with his pearly whites.

"'May I sit?"

"Oh uh, yeah."

I looked back down at the menu in front of me.

"Now I'm not going to ask why you're not in school because it's none of my business."

"Maybe it's because my mouth hurts." I snapped towards him.

Dr. Irwin just stared at me, probably trying to gauge my reaction.

"I might have some pain relief in my car, do you want me to go get it?"

"No, I'm kidding. Well I'm not, but I'm fine. Someone let off stink bombs at school and they had to evacuate everybody to the football field, so I just left."

I looked at the counter to make eye contact with a waitress who was headed towards our table.

"I hope you're getting soup." Dr. Irwin spoke up as he saw the waitress walk towards us.

I rolled my eyes at him.

"Stop being an orthodontist."

The waitress walked up to our table.

"Good afternoon, are you guys ready to order?"

I ordered the chicken noodle soup and Dr. Irwin of course chose a health option and ordered a salad.

It wasn't even 10 minutes later, when our food arrived.

"You're going to have a fun time eating those noodles."

I ignored him and grabbed a spoonful of soup. I purposefully avoided grabbing any chicken.

I blew the spoonful to cool it off and then placed it in my mouth.

I chewed the noodles slowly, not wanting to cause too much pain.

I looked to Dr. Irwin who hadn't even touched his salad.

He was gauging my reaction.

I ate another spoonful, seeing him still stare at me.

"Can I eat my soup?"

"Mhmmm." He said grabbing a forkful of his salad.

He was still in his lilac scrubs from my appointment this morning.

How does he have so much free time, does he have like no patients or something.

"Shouldn't you be working?"

"I'm on my lunch break."

"Then why was there nobody else in your office this morning?"

"My office is closed today."

But I had an appointment today?

I looked up at Dr. Irwin as he smirked at me before taking another bite of his salad.

There was a peaceful silence before he spoke up.

"Today is usually my day off work when I catch up on paperwork, or I make plans or appointments. And if worst comes to worst, sometimes I have to fix brackets on my off days."
