Living down the street from the Curtis brothers your entire life makes it hard to avoid them. Especially being Two-bit's older sister. We are constantly at the Curtis house, even spending the night most of the time. Honestly we practically live there.
"Hey y/n can you hand me a coke" Soda asked from the living room. I got him a coke and handed it to him.
"I'm taking a shower so no one come in the bathroom." All the guys hummed in response, probably not hearing what I said. I gathered some clothes and a towel and took off for the bathroom. There was no lock on the door, risky with 7 boys and 1 girl, but we had all gotten used to it. Finishing my shower I was about to get out when I heard the door open.
"Jesus Christ" I whispered to myself. Can't these boys listen to simple directions. I peeked my head around the curtain to see Darry standing in front of the sink, looking at the stubble on his chin in the mirror. He must have just got home, I don't remember seeing him earlier.
"Darry." I couldn't believe he didn't notice the shower being on. Darry shot out of his gaze and immediately turned towards me. His eyes grew wide.
"Oh shit, I'm sorry y/n"
"It's fine, whatever, can you just hand me my towel." Darry picked up my towel and gave it to me, trying to look anywhere but at me. His cheeks were completely red.
"Darry don't be embarrassed it really isn't a big deal." I said from behind the curtain. I wasn't even sure if he was still there or not, but him answering told me he was.
"I'm not embarrassed." He sounded unsure of himself. Chuckling at his response, I wrapped the towel around myself and opened the curtain. Darry stood there awkwardly, staring at me.
"Well get out so I can change." I said obviously. He nodded his head quickly and went for the door. He fumbled with the doorknob until it opened. I laughed at his nervousness while he scurried out of the door.
After I got dressed I opened the door, but found Darry standing in doorway with his back to me.
"Darry?" I asked. "What are you doing"
He turned around, still red in the face. "What? Oh, my bad" He ran off to his room obviously trying to avoid another confrontation.
Leaving the bathroom, I found my way into the living room while the boys did an assortment of things like playing cards, watching tv or eating. (Two-bit managing to do all three).
"Didn't any of you think to tell poor Darry that I was in the shower." They all looked up at me.
"No" Dallas answered. "He was gonna see you naked sooner or later, we just didn't stop it from being sooner."
My face turned as red as Darry's. "He did not see me naked." With that accusation I left to go get a coke. I could hear Dally scoff from behind me, muttering something under his breath.
I found Ponyboy, Johnny and Soda sitting in the kitchen. Interrupting their conversation, I sat down next to Johnny at the table.
"Can you believe that?" I asked them. They seemed unfazed.
"Yea" Johnny said. I looked at him in shock. "Everyone knows Darry has the fattest crush on you and we're all pretty sure you have one on him too."
I was appalled. No way did I have a crush on Darry. Speaking of, Darry just so happened to walk into the kitchen.
"Hi Darry" Soda said while keeping his eyes on me. Darry said hello and got a coke from the fridge. Pony started kicking me from under the table.
"Ponyboy will you stop that" I asked. "You are so damn immature"
Ponyboy snickered at me while Darry took a seat next to him. Everyone's eyes shifted from me to Darry. Finally Sodapop broke the silence.
"So Darry anything interesting happen today?" I mentally face palmed, rolling my eyes. "Interrupt someone doing something?" At this point my head was in my hands. Darry sighed deeply. Peeking out between my fingers, I looked at Darry.
"I don't know what your talking about" I took this as an opportunity to leave before the questions started in. Saying bye to all the boys as I walked out, I started to think about what Johnny had said. Having a crush on Darry was just not an option, and there was no chance he had one on me. However, as I thought more about the subtle glances from across the room, or sweet gestures like giving me his jacket, and even when we were in middle school when all the boys were assholes, he was nice too me. By the time I reached my front door I had realized Darry has had a crush on me for a long time, but by the time I had gotten in the house, I realized, I had a crush on him too.
This realization sent me into a fit of panic. I couldn't sit, I couldn't eat and my mind was going a million miles per hour. What was going to happen now that I realized? Would things be different? My mind flooded with questions I couldn't find an answer to. I didn't know what to do so I sat on the couch and stared at the wall while thinking.
By the time two-bit got home multiple hours later, I was still in the same position on the couch. When he walked in the door, I was met with a strange glance from him.
"I like Darry" I mumbled under my breath. This was the first time I had said it out loud.
"What?" Two-bit asked.
"I like Darry" I said it louder this time. Two-bit stared at me in shock for what felt like minutes until he screamed. He ran to me and stared jumping for joy. He took my hands and we ran out into the street. Two was jumping and screaming like an idiot.
"SHE LIKES DARRY" he yelled as he leaped to the Curtis house. By the time we made it there, two-bit was out of breath. He climbed the stairs of the porch and barged inside, still holding my hand. Everyone was still at the house, meaning two-bit probably only left to find me.
"She." Two was still catching his breath. "Likes Darry." Everyone stared at us in silence. Then soda piped up.
"Oh my god" he said "Darry likes y/n" This made the boys go ballistic. In the midst of the screaming and cheers, Darry and I made our way to the middle.
"Is it true?" He asked, cupping my face with one hand.
"It's true" I said. He smiled.
"I've been waiting for this since the seventh grade." His lips met mine.
