[TW: ⚠️ Slight Angst⚠️]
Y/N'S POV:
"Why?" is all I push out.
Camilo sits next to me and I feel his gaze on me. I don't return his look.
"Why? Why what? Did I do something?" Camilo grabs my hand.
"Why are you acting like you care?" I say taking my hand back.
"What do you mean? Y/n I do care," He says which strains my heart.
"No, you don't. I heard what the villagers said. I understand being sympathetic and taking me in, but after a while, I thought you actually liked me. I thought we were actually friends. You know if your family really didn't want me to stay, you guys could've just told me. Instead, you guys lied to me. You know, for traveling as long as I have you'd think I'd know better than to get attached. I guess not," I say with tears falling. I look down at the broken pencil in front of me.
"Y/n... Y/n. No, no, no. God, That's not true at all," He says placing a hand on my shoulder. I shake my head. Why does he think he can still lie?
"Y/n look at me," He says placing a hand on the side of my wet cheek. I don't move my head. He gently moves my head for me to face him.
"Please stop crying. Y/n my family loves you, I promise. Everyone was worried about you all day. We genuinely like you, I promise," He says.
"I overheard one of the village people say that you wouldn't even give me a chance," I say solemnly still not meeting his eyes.
"I never said that. Y/n, you know those Chimosas. They love creating drama. I promise you that no one in my family ever said anything bad about you. Everyone loves you. Even Abuela likes you. Y/n please look at me," He says. I slowly look up at him. I finally meet his eyes. They're brimmed with worry. His eyes are still so beautiful. The dim light of the moon makes them sparkle. His thumb brushes my cheek wiping away the tears that are falling at a slower rate.
"I'm sorry," I say. Now all I feel is stupid. Stupid for ever believing those village people. I feel stupid for ever thinking that they were lying. They're such kind people. I'm such an idiot. I should've known better. Especially when it came to Camilo.
"Hey, hey, hey. It's okay. It's okay. It's not your fault," He says sweetly.
"I shouldn't ever have listened-"
"It's okay. Just breathe. Next time you hear any sort of rumor about my family or me, just ask us. We won't get mad I promise," He says. I nod silently. I throw my arms around Cam's neck and engulf him in a hug. He falls backward as he wraps his hands around my waist. I place my head in the crook of his neck and smile.
"Thank you, Camilo," I mumble.
"O-of course Y/n" I hear him mumble. We sit there for a few minutes. Silent enjoying each other's presence. His fast-beating heart serves as a steady rhythm.
"I think this is the closest you ever let me get to you, Y/n," He says laughing. I scoff.
"Don't get used to it Madrigal," I say sitting up. I sit up facing the town and grab my sketchbook. He chucks and sits up next to me.
"Were you drawing?" He says scooting next to me.
"Ya. I need a landmark for memories," I say taking a new pencil out of my bag. I begin to draw, starting where I left off.
"Are you leaving?!" Camilo shoots up. I look up at him.
"The village at night is beautiful. It has a sort of mystical enchantment to it with all the glowing lights. I was planning on sketching the village at night then leaving," I say. He jumps to my other side and grabs my bag.
