The Closet

Katsuki's heart pounded as he slammed against the door that had been closed in his face. He'd been so close! He angrily slammed a fist down on it and took a deep breath, backing away from it and scrubbing his hands over his face.

"Fuck, Izuku..."

He'd gotten a glance at him after the other had walked into him and Izuku looked like a fucking wreck.

If he hadn't already hated himself for all the shit he did before, he sure did now.

Cursing again, he slumped against the wall across from the door and stared at it.

He had his chance to talk to him and he blew it.

...Did he? It was clear that Izuku hadn't walked out with the intention of doing so if their chase was anything to take notice of.

As the adrenaline of it all began to wear off, he became less sure. He knew that Izuku had mistakenly trapped himself in a closet. If Katsuki really wanted, he knew he could sit here. He could pass the time until eventually the other had absolutely no choice but to face him.

Would that be a good idea, though? Would he only scare him off more than he already was? Would his words actually reach him? By forcing Izuku to see him, to talk to him, would he only reinstate that he was that same bully from those journal entries? The one who didn't listen to him? The one who pushed him around?

Even if that was all he was proving, Izuku looked horrible. Would he be capable of walking away?

He stared at the door, almost as if it would give him any answers, any clues, as to how he should go about anything. Katsuki wouldn't be shocked if it had a better clue for which route he should go than he did. In this position, so very out of his element, he was as dense as it was. At least, that's how it felt.

Shaking it off, he ran his hand through his hair. He was trying to gain emotional intelligence from a door. That's how he knew he had hit a new low. He was so scared to do anything, to decide anything, but he knew he had to go. He had to let Izuku be the one to talk to him. At the very least, he had to give it time.

He couldn't without saying a few words first though.

"Izuku, I'm not gonna give up. You don't gotta talk to me now, but please, give me a fucking chance to make it up to you."

The silence was heavy but he continued despite it.

"I'll leave for now, but... shit, let me try? When you're ready? I... I miss you. I'll do whatever you want me to do to fix this."

He was gonna cry again at this rate. He backed away from the door and turned to leave with a pit in his stomach and a weight in his chest.

-

Izuku stared straight ahead, the closet silent.

He jumped when a loud bang hit the door. He looked back at it nervously... would Katsuki try to break in?

No. Instead, he listened to his words, his heart breaking with every continuation, with every crack of Katsuki's voice.

Surely he didn't mean what he was saying. Even if he did, he wouldn't for long, right? When their memories were returned he'd be embarrassed for his words. He'd laugh at Izuku for believing them. Could he have his heart broken twice? He wasn't so sure.

Before long, Katsuki went quiet, and Izuku was sure that he had actually left this time.

He slowly turned his head back to look at Aizawa.

It seemed that he wasn't expecting him, seeing as he was tucked away in a yellow sleeping bag in a dark closet, staring at him with a brow raised.

"...Uh- What are you...?"
