I jolted awake, my breathing quick and sweat and tears staining my face. I looked around and found Y/n still sleeping peacefully on the bed in front of me. I sighed, realizing it was just a nightmare and ran a hand through my sweat-soaked hair, wiping my face off with my sleeve and slumping down in my chair.
I'm not going back to sleep. I knew that for a fact. There was no point in trying. I would just wake up in an hour with another nightmare of the love of my life dying.
I ran my hand through my messy hair again before standing up and grabbing the TV remote off of the table beside Y/n's bed, sitting back down and turning on the TV.
I scrolled through the channels, trying to find something that was moderately appealing to me. After minutes of scrolling, I gave up on trying to find something to watch and settled on a random movie that was on some random channel. I dropped the TV remote into my lap and flung my legs over the armrest of the chair, resting my head on the back of the chair.
After about a half hour, I felt my eyes grow heavy. No matter how hard I tried to fight it, I lost the battle with sleep and sank into a deep state of dreaming.
...
I grabbed May's keys off the counter as Y/n told Koda goodbye. I held out my arm and she hooked her hand into the crook of my arm as we walked out of the apartment and out to the car. I opened the door for her and she got in. I made my way over to my side of the car, getting in and placing the keys in the ignition before driving off.
We were about ten minutes into the ride when we got stuck at a red light. I turned up the stereo as we waited for the light to change to green. Once it did, I put my foot back onto the gas pedal pressed it down slowly.
Something doesn't feel right.
I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. My senses were going ballistic, telling me to go faster. To get past this light or something bad is going to happen. My senses have never been wrong before so I decided to listen to them. But as soon as I pressed the pedal down farther, blinding lights blasted through Y/n's window. My senses were going crazier now as the lights rapidly came closer.
"Y/n!" I yelled, putting my arm out in front of her and trying my best to protect her.
The truck slammed into her side of the car, flipping us over. For what seemed like hours, the car continued to flip and roll until it finally stopped, landing upside-down in the middle of the road. The last thing I heard as the world went black, was the screaching of tires and the low rumble of the truck's engine as it drove off into the distance, leaving behind the mess it made.
I had no idea how long it was before the ambulances showed up. My head was pounding. My blurred vision started to clear as I looked around at my surroundings. I could feel the blood slipping down from the large gash on my forehead. I could hear the faint blaring of sirens as I groaned and coughed, trying to refill my lungs with air.
I tried to move and see if Y/n was okay, but I couldn't. My arm was pinned between the headrest of my seat and the roof of the car, my hand being bent in ways hands shouldn't be able to bend. I could feel the glass shards cutting into my skin as I tried to get my arm free.
I turned my head slightly over to look at Y/n. She was unconscious. There was a fairly large gash across her cheekbone and a smaller one just above her temple. Her arms were cut up, similarly to mine, and dripping with blood. The worst of the injuries left me trying harder to get out of my seat and over to help her; a large piece of glass was lodged into her abdomen and the bone was sticking out from her leg.
"Y/n!" I croaked out, tears streaming down my face.
I would be fine eventually with my super healing. Y/n, on the other hand, didn't have that ability, her injuries could easily be fatal and who knows what is happening inside her body that isn't visible on the oustide.
The sirens grew louder as red and blue lights flashed through the broken windows of May's car. My seatbelt was being fumbled with within seconds of the sirens stopping.
"Sir, can you hear me?" A paramedic asked.
"No! No! Help her first! I'm fine!" I tried shouting, but my frantic voice was just above a whisper.
I turned my head slightly looking over to Y/n. A female paramedic was checking Y/n's pulse.
"Passenger is unresponsive. Female, around 17, no pulse, pupils unresponsive to light." She spoke.
My heart dropped.
No. No. No. This isn't real.
"Passenger is considered DOA at this time." She spoke again.
A loud ringing noise sounded in my ears. I could have sworn I heard Y/n's voice throughout it.
"Peter?" Y/n's voice rang through my mind. "Peter, wake up!"
The ringing grew louder and louder before-
I jolted awake for the second time tonight. Sweat soaked my body and hair as tears streamed down my face and I panted.
"Peter?" Y/n called.
I snapped my gaze over to her and let out a sigh of relief.
"Hey, you're awake!" I cheered, slowing my breathing.
"Yeah. Are you okay? What was that?" She asked.
"Just a nightmare. I'm okay."
"You sure? It seemed really bad."
I nodded and wiped my face off.
"How are you feeling?" I asked.
"Pretty good. My stitches are a little itchy but that's normal." She responded.
I nodded as I got lost in thought. Clips of my nightmare played through my mind and tears started to pool in my eyes. I shut my eyes tightly and shook my head before reopening them and looking back to Y/n.
"Are you sure you're okay?" She asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I lied.
"What was the nightmare about?"
"Nothing."
"It was about the accident, wasn't it?"
I hesitated before nodding, a few tears falling down my face.
"I-It was so real. I thought I lost you." I sniffled.
She reached out her hand and placed it on mine, squeezing it tightly before pulling my arm to grab my attention.
"Come here." She spoke.
I sat up and laid down next to her on the bed, nestling my face into the crook of her neck as she ran her fingers through my hair.
"I'm right here, Pete. You're not gonna get rid of me that easily." She laughed a little, as did I.
