On our way to the tent, one of the kids, Bear, ran up to follow us. He had a bowl of water for our prisoner, and I went in with him while Ekko waited at the door. Bear wasn't afraid with me standing beside him. He held up the bowl confidently to the enforcer as I untied her and took off the bag over her head.
She looked at him, then to me, then back to the bowl, and then she threw out her hand and knocked the bowl out of the child's grasp. The water splattered along the floor, and my eyes narrowed.
"Go, Bear."
He didn't say anything, running off past Ekko. Ekko wasn't happy with the spill, and neither was I. I crossed my arms and she sputtered.
"Listen, let her go—I brought her here." She huffed, "It's me you want."
Trust me, we have no interest in you.
Vi curled around the corner of the tent wall and smirked as Caitlyn noticed her.
"My hero." She cooed sarcastically, and the enforcer scoffed, shoulders slumping.
"I thought—I thought they were hurting you!"
Ekko and I gave each other a glance, and I nodded.
"Vi tells me that I can trust you." He began, "You get a pass back topside, that's it. Let's go."
Ekko stood and walked out, and Vi stayed to watch for just a second. I looked down at the girl.
"Are you going to need help getting up?"
She scowled, "No. Thanks."
I pursed my lips, not daring to say anything else.
As she stepped outside, I watched carefully as she looked around, mouth open, eyes wide and flabbergasted. What a sight. A topsider realizing that the undercity isn't all darkness and disease."It's beautiful." She commented.
"If your people had your way it'd be rubble and ash."
She frowned, "It's a misunderstanding. They think you work for Silco."
"Your people hunt us, like animals!" Ekko snapped, stomping over to her, "Silco pays them to do it."
"That's not possible." She quickly said, "You're wrong."
Ekko's hands fisted, "Say that one more time!"
"Ekko." Vi called out, moving to push them apart, "She believes what she's saying, okay? She's not your enemy."
"Oh yeah? Then what's this?"
I blinked, watching him reach into the bag on his side, my eyes bulged at what he pulled out. It was the same stone, but smoother, gentler looking. The same one that caused all of this.
"You got it!" Caitlyn gasped, "You have to let me take it back."
He quickly held it tight in his fist, pulling his arm away from the topsider. She frowned, swallowing as Vi leaned towards her, "What is it?"
"It's a gemstone. Stolen the night of the attack, by your sister."
Vi threw her hands out, "And you just forgot to mention that?"
"With this, someone with the right knowledge could build any hextech device." She explained, "If Enforcers are becoming more aggressive, this is why. That's why I need to take it back."
"We can beat Silco with this." Ekko suggested, shocking me slightly.
I shouldn't be surprised. I know Ekko out of everyone would have the means to make something good of that stone, and I would be lying if I said I didn't want to try and see if I had any affinity to magic like my grandmother said I might. But I couldn't risk it... I couldn't risk anyone getting ahold of this.
