"Hello Alexander", you answered staying put in the driveway trying to figure out how to alert your mother. "Don't even bother, it's just me and you right now and all I want to do is talk", he spoke. You could hear slight amusement in his voice indicating that he's infamous smug smirk is plastered right on his face, just as you could remember it, pretty vividly you might add.
"What do you want Alex"? You spat, irritation laced in your tone, dreading the day you ever met him, at this point you truly envied those who haven't or rather will never meet him. Their paths will never cross with Alexander and thinking about that made you truly jealous." Hey Alex, who are you talking to"? That voice, it was too familiar, that voice was the voice that comforted you after numerous heartbreaks including one that involved losing 100 dollars by dropping it somewhere in the middle of a grand mall that you would never get again. Truly heartbreaking indeed. That voice made you laugh when you were upset with your parents, or you were upset with your favourite character who always fell for the girl that didn't want him, when you were right there. Truly tragic. If someone ever asked you what comfort was, you'd tell them it was that voice, that voice that came with those eyes, those eyes that came with her smile, that smile that came with her vibratious laughter that never failed to make you laugh the same. That was the voice of your best friend and you knew that. Would that mean he's in her house? " I'm talking to Jade, wanna say hi"? You heard him say, you waited for her footsteps to sound closer until you can hear the friction caused by someone handing someone else the phone. "Hey girl", she said unaffected. "Are you okay, he didn't hurt you did he"? You questioned worriedly knowing how truly monstrous Alex could get if he wanted to. Sticking your key into the ignition and taking off to Lyla's house was all that was going on in your head. You needed to get to her before he hurt her, traumatized her if you will. "No he didn't, why would he hurt me"? She asked concerned, worry lacing her tone before you heard her yelp as you heard rustling. Stepping on the accelerator, you sped up trying to get there in time. "Lyla, Lyla! Are you okay"? You asked turning on your car's location just in case things go south. One thing about Alex was he was never predictable, you could never predict what he would do or when, to the point where it felt like it was his personal mission to be unpredictable and boy was he good at it. "Yeah, he just scared me that's all", she said sounding farther away than before, meaning Alex had the phone now. Turning left and passing an intersection, you pulled up to Lyla's house and left your car running as you put your phone on speaker and put it in your pyjama pocket. You ran across the front lawn to the back of the house. Hearing Alex speaking through the phone allowed you comfort knowing you still had the element of surprise. "Listen jade Lyla and I are just chilling up in her room, there's nothing to worry about", he said quite smug knowing exactly how that sentence triggered you. Looking up at her bedroom window on the second floor, you grabbed the ladder you usually hid behind the trees in the backyard and only used it for emergencies such as this. You climbed as fast as you can not caring about the ladder being wobbly. You slid open the window to Lyla's room and leaped in, ignoring the ladder that fell off the side of the wall landing on the grass with a soft thud, turning to face the two stunned faces starring back at you. Well Lyla was bewildered but Alex was more of a composed type of surprised. "You were always one for the dramatics Jade", he said looking down softly smiling to himself shaking his head. Basically giving you the look of 'not surprised just disappointed'. "You always loved using gruesome tactics so I guess it's fair, you could say I compensated for your behavior". You said giving him the side eye. "You were annoying and insecure, it was starting to be unattractive", he said looking straight at you, posing a challenge. "You were hot headed and selfish, not to mention self obsorbed. I always wondered how you could wear a hat with your head so big", you said annoyed and irritated. "You still remember how big my head was? You dream about it don't you considering your dry spell", he smirked in your direction. "What the fuck is wrong with you", you questioned, your blood boiling, your skin crawling. "Spare me the semantics Jadey, I always could get under your skin and so did you with me", he said letting out a breathe and walking closer to you. "Could you not? You always got under my skin because you would do the dumbest shit, according to you, I got under your skin for preferring to stay clean including where we lived at the time, have an opinion that didn't match with yours and last but not least, breathe", you said exasperated, arguing with him always took a toll on you, sometimes you wondered why you bother doing so in the first place and just ignore him. "oh, c'mon baby, you always loved it when I got mad, you told me yourself that you enjoyed it when I expressed my anger with you in certain ways", he whispered into your ear as his eyes took you in, from head to toe. You realised then when his tongue swept across his lips, where his eyes were pinpointed. You weren't wearing a bra since  your plan was to come to a girls only sleepover yet of course Alex would show up. He always knew how to ruin things for you. Taking a deep breathe you pushed him away from you and kicked him in the crotch. "I hate you"! You exclaimed as you took deep breathes to calm yourself from the rage burning in your heart.

Your Pov

You had watched as Jade leapt through your window and watched as your ladder went thud on the grass outside. 'How did she do that', you asked yourself as your hands went up to your mouth in shock. You had sat down and watched Alex and Jade argue since she arrived, their body language, their facial expression and obviously the way they spoke suggested that they knew each other earlier in their lives. Jade was red with anger, you had never seen her that angry before. You had seen her at her most angriest when...
*Start of flashback*
A guy approached you both when you were leaving the mall heading towards the parking lot. He had approached you slightly drunk but his audacity was in full swing. He had complimented you both and told you how beautiful you were, you thanked him and continued on your way. He came in front of you again and asked if we were single and we told him 'we had boyfriends' but he wouldn't leave you alone. He asked for our phone numbers and we had told him no. He kept bothering us and I could see Jade was ready to blow. We kindly asked him to leave us alone but he consisted with his bothering. Jade made a phone call sounding enraged but after about 20 seconds she ended the call and gave him the look I love to call 'the look of death', since it had no life just pure anger. She gave me some money to go buy some ice cream and insisted I left her alone with this man. I refused to leave until she called a man wearing all black if he could help us, she insisted again and reluctantly I left, just next door to get some ice cream. About 10 minutes later due to the line they had, i went out the store to find the drunk man and the man wearing all black gone as if they weren't there in the first place. Jade was standing against the wall on her phone, looking much calmer than before. I came up to her and asked her what had happened and she told me the guy wearing all black dealt with the drunk and left. Her explanation although simple left many open questions that popped into my head but decided to let it go and continue with our day. I had spotted blood under her nose and I informed her of my sighting. She grabbed a handkerchief from her bag and wiped it off apologizing and brushing it off as a nose bleed.
*End of flashback*
'Here I am sitting on my bed seeing the very same look but on steroids. Her vein ready to pop out of her head and another ready to pop out of her neck. Nobody could irritate her this much, she was very tolerant of a lot of things which is why her clenching her fists made me truly question who Alex was. He has showed up to my house a couple hours after jade had dropped me off at home and asked if he could come in. I let him enter my house and he sat himself on my couch. He told me I had dropped my pencil case after our little interval of conversation. I remembered distinctly that there was nothing on the floor when I turned back to look at him because my pencil case wasn't camouflaging with the schools wall. It was a bright purple with some black on it which had 'Bad Bitch' plastered in the front, of course gifted by my lovely best friend. Pushing it off as my memory being all wonky, I thanked him and offered him a drink. We sat on my couch just as his phone rang, he went to go answer it outside. After a few minutes I looked up to my name being called and Alex waving me over to come outside in the middle of the night. Putting one of my new year resolutions to the test, being that one of them was to take more risks, I went out side and sat with him staring at the stars or the road, it was Honeslty your pick. He put his head on my shoulder and I panicked and told him I had to go check on something. Leaving him outside, I went to the kitchen and drank water, taking a breather. Deciding to go outside again I saw him on the phone and asked him who he was talking to since there was huge smirk plastered across his face. I'm not sure what the drama between these two is but my jaw dropped after what Alex said'. "Don't lie Jade, you love me, we even got married for peace sake"! He exclaimed smiling staring directly at jade's expression filled face waiting for her to break and tell me the secret she's been keeping from me. But she refused to break not after the stunt he just pulled. "It was a marriage of convenience Alex, we both didn't even have a choice in the matter, so just leave it", she stated calmly and turned to face you, her eyes scanning every inch of you looking for marks or cuts or even stab wounds. She didn't know what to expect from Alex since he's return. She strides towards you and bent down to your level. "Are you okay"? She asked with concern plaguing her features, her tone worried.
You looked at her flabbergasted, concerned, curious and whatever emotion you felt that you couldn't place. You nodded your head still silent and watched as she stood up and sat next you. Breaking out of your thoughts you turned your whole body to face Jade as you gathered up the courage to ask her this question.
"You were married"!
