When David woke up the next morning, the day was already late.

He found the small bathroom, put water over his face. Almost twenty-four hours ago, he was doing the same, in his ex-boss and ex-boyfriend's house. Things can change really quickly...

In the living room, no-one was there. He sat on the couch, and waited. He didn't know what to do, he was definitely lost, not particularly in Alesha'a house, but lost in this enormous life. It was too much for a little humble author like him.

The front door opened, David froze in fear. It was fortunately only his gorgeous friend, with the dog. When she saw him daydreaming, or rather daynightmaring, she said, with a warm smile :
"Hello sweetie !"
"Hi Lesha. Thank you for having walked the dog."
"It's okay, I like walking. But we'll need to buy him stuff today."
"Him ? Oh, the dog, yeah..."
"I was planning to meet Mandy in a cozy café for the dessert, and we were going to walk in a park maybe. You know, just a regular girls' talk."
"So I'll go home, thank you for having welcomed me for the night, that was really kind of you."
"No, don't leave. Come with us."
"I don't want to bother you, Lesha."
"You don't. I'll just call Mandy. We'll take-... Oh yeah, by the way, what will be the dog's name ?"
"Alfred."
"A little Alfie, that's cool !"
"A little Alfie...", David inexpressively repeated, gently patting the dog's head.
"And how are you this morning ? Have you slept well ?"
"Oh yeah... Being asleep is not the problem, you know."
"What is it then ?"
"Dropping off."

He let the silence prevail in the room for some seconds, before adding, felting the need to explain :
"Because I do overthink quite a lot. As soon as I can, I think about her. I know it's bad, I know I should think about the happy things that are currently happening in my life, but it's-... it's unthinkable. And I'm sorry about that, because no matter how hard I try, she's always in my mind, and I always-... I always have that fatigued hope. I can't help myself, it's just against me. I know I'm being annoying all the time to bleat this everywhere, but I'm sorry, I'm truly sorry, Lesha."

She sat next to him, hugged him once more, stayed speechless at his words over again, felt helpless anew.

The situation couldn't last. Nothing could last. David had tried everything.

Some hours after, he was entering a small café, after Alesha. He put a smile on his face, not to bother Amanda with him fussing about his life.
"Hello guys !" she sweetly smiled.
"Hi Mandy", the brunette kissed her on both cheeks.
"Good morning, Mandy", David did the same, and sat across the table from the two girls.
"How are you both ?"
"Good. I picked up David at Simon's house this morning, he wanted to show you the dog he was recently given, and he needed some fresh air too."
"I'm fine as well, and you ?"
"I'm feeling dreadful. Just argued with Chris in front of the girls. I didn't know what to tell them, so I escaped from home."
"Seems like all husbands have problems with us these days", Alesha thoughtfully indicated, glancing at David.
"Fortunately he wasn't my husband", the author mumbled, loudly enough for the two girls to understand though.
"You had the most perfect relationship, how could you two argue ?!" Amanda asked, genuinely surprised.
"Oh, if that was perfect, I wonder what's imperfect..."
"Was ? What's happened ?"
"No, I really should stop bothering you with my little 'couple problems'. You both have some, too, and you deserve people worrying about you. I'm not the only one down here on Earth."
"That's very kind of you, sweetie."
"Let's see what we can do to help everybody here", David suggested. "Lesha, start."
"Well, it's just-... I don't know, a hard week. I work during the day, he works at night, there are some arguments about the kids, too, because-... I think we just-... Our ways to raise children differ a bit, and we're both hurt by it. We want the best for the kids, but we give them this 'best' quite differently, and I guess that is precisely the problem."
"I can understand that", the author kindly smiled. "And you, Mandy ?"
"Yesterday evening, when I got home, the girls were at his parents' place - that's the first issue, we're in the middle of the week, they have to go to school -, and he had prepared everything. With like rose petals on the bed, and I apparently hurt him, because I said I wasn't in the mood. Like, hell, I'm on my period, having sex is the most uncomfortable thing. So, he was angry, and I had to sleep on the couch... Then, the day after, when I woke up, he had picked the girls up, and they were back home - which I personally find completely dumb -. He was insulting me for being a woman, in front of the kids, and for having such problems. I yelled at him, and he cried. He also hates the fact I'm an assertive woman. I then dropped the girls off at school before coming here."
"I'm sorry..."
"It's okay... And you, David, tell me what's happened with Simon ? I saw the slap, which was horrible from him. I scolded him right after, he wasn't happy. He even seemed upset when you left."
"I don't even know. You see how he slapped me, he's so damn jealous. He was just trying to hurt me, no matter his reputation, which is usually the most important thing to him... He humiliated everybody in the room-..."
"And you first, David, I can't imagine how bad you feel..."
"Oh, I'm okay, but he also humiliated you both. If I were you, I wouldn't go there anymore, I wouldn't work for him. He fired me the other day, so I'm finally relieved."
"HE FIRED YOU ?!" the two women looked at him in surprise.
