You held him in your arms, shaking with tears flowing down your face. He held one hand over his abdomen that was bleeding profusely, while he put his other hand up weakly to caress your cheek to comfort you.
"Don't cry, darling. I'm right here, I'm not going away so soon." He tried to wipe away your tears with his thumb while you held his hand against yours.
"Please, you can't go away. I don't know what I would do without you." You cried, closing your eyes filled with tears in pain.
"Ah, sweetheart. You'll do just fine without me. I just know it. You're a strong girl too." He smiled reassuringly.
"No, no I'm not. Don't say that, don't act like you're going to die. You're going to make it."
He still tried his best to smile for you. It was obvious that he did not have much time left, as he was laying in a pool of his own blood and the look in his eyes made him seem as if he was fading away. But you refused to believe that you would lose the one person you loved and cherished the most.
"I'm sorry Y/N, but I'm running out of time. There's just a few things I wanted to say before I go."
His face had blurred in your tears, and you decided to not interrupt him, worried that he would be gone before he could say what he wanted to.
"I—I don't deserve a girl like you. I tried to go against Monstadt, but you're still here by my side. I have too many great sins, and I wanted to thank you. I don't deserve your acceptance. But please find someone better who will love you." He coughed up blood, making your eyes widen.
"No, I couldn't do that! I only love you and only you." You cried.
"I just wanted you to know that you can move on, I won't be mad." He smiled weakly.
He paused for a moment and spoke again, "And the only thing I regret is not marrying you."
"Y-you wanted to marry me?" Your eyes widened.
With the little strength left he could muster, he put his face against yours, kissing you one last time. You were shocked and worried he was overstraining himself. He pulled away in your arms, looking almost like a ghost, barely able to keep his eyes open.
"Smile for me, okay?"
You could barely break a smile right now, but you did what he asked while crying.
"That's my girl." He closed his eyes with a peaceful look on his face.
"Kaeya?" You held a hand against his face, and he didn't respond.
"Kaeya, please. Wake up." You tried patting his cheek for a response, but he still kept his eyes closed.
A gloved hand was placed on your shoulder. "I'm sorry, Y/N. But Kaeya's gone." You recognized it was Diluc's voice and he sounded pained. You looked back at him, and it looked like he had cried. An emotion you've never seen on the man.
"B-but I was just talking to him just a moment ago. Maybe he can be patched up at the Cathedral, maybe-" You held his limp body, shaking.
"Y/N please." Diluc said to you. "He's not coming back. His wounds are far too deep to be healed and-" He crumpled down to his knees. "I-I never forgave him properly or tried to reconcile with him." He placed a closed fist over his eye, unable to stop himself from crying.
You felt guilty seeing Diluc this way, seeing that he shared the grief that you had, but he was his brother that he had grown up with for almost his whole life.
You kissed Kaeya on the forehead for the last time, placing him gently on the ground and stood up slowly.
Diluc had stared at the ground near Kaeya in anguish. "I-I was a terrible brother to him. I took his life by my own sword to defend myself. I'm a monster." He cried.
You wanted to comfort Diluc, barely able to speak. "It wasn't your fault."
He looked to you, almost angry. "Don't you hate me? I killed him. The one person you love so much." There were tears in his eyes.
You clenched your fists. "I know. But I don't hate you because... Because Kaeya wouldn't hate you for what you did." You closed your eyes in pain, making tears fall to the ground.
Diluc went silent after what you said in shock then spoke up.
"Of course. That's how he always was. He was always so forgiving, even as a child." He bit his tongue. "I-I'm sorry for saying that. Thank you for making my brother feel loved. Something that I failed to do." He closed his eyes, putting his fist on the ground.
"Y-you're welcome." You glanced at Kaeya's peaceful resting expression.
"Goodbye, Kaeya." You thought to yourself.
You walked away, leaving him behind with the feeling of a dull-aching heart.
