Third P.o.v
"You have to stop Mirabel! The cracks started because of you! Bruno left because of you!"
Mirabel felt as if she had been shot through the heart, abuela's words pierced her like bullets. All she ever wanted was to be seen by her, but hearing those words come out of her mouth, The cracks started with you! Bruno left because of you! made her realize that maybe abuela was right..Maybe it was her ruining the family; maybe everything would've been better had she just left..
Cracks spread on the casita's walls, Mirabel looked at her feet, she tried to think of words but she couldn't, as if she had been turned to stone she couldn't move, everything faded away, her mothers yells defending her were muffled, all Mirabel could her was her own thoughts. If she was causing everything around her to crumble down, if she was the reason her family was falling apart, then maybe her family would be better off without her.. "You're right, maybe I am causing our family to crumble.." her voice was quiet, as if if she even dared to raise it, everything around her would turn to dust. She could hear her mother's voice trying to reassure her that she wasn't the cause of all of the issues in the family. As Mirabel's thoughts swarmed her head, more and more cracks began to spread like vines.
She tried to build up the courage to continue speaking, but as she heard her abuela's words confirming her biggest fear; she finally spoke up "Then maybe you'd all be better off without me!" this time, she was loud, she was tired of being ignored, of being silent, she was going to be heard now. She'd make sure of it. Mirabel couldn't cause hurricanes with her emotions, but she'd cause one with her voice, it boomed like thunder, her words struck her family like lightning. She was going to be heard. No matter what..
A huge crack erupted from the ground, separating Mirabel and her abuela. Tears fell down her face as casita pushed out her family, saving them from the collapse the was bound to happen at any minute. She ran up the stairs, one family member on her mind, the one family member that understood her the most, Tío Bruno.. She ran to the familiar painting and swung open the hidden door, she ran through the tight passageway, dodge bits of rock that fell from the decaying walls. She jumped over the hole in the floor, she kept on turning corners until she came upon Bruno's door, she slammed it open and saw her tío, gathering his rats but jumped when he heard the slamming of his door. Mirabel walked towards him, Bruno couldn't help but try to stammer out apologies for his vision coming true and ruining everything, he was cut off as his niece hugged him, a simple action that broke him, "Abuela hates me, everything is falling apart and it's all my fault." Mirabel broke down, tears falling from her eyes like a never ending waterfall. If the hug didn't break Bruno, then the sight of his niece crying certainly did, the same niece that he watched grow up from afar, the niece that he used to hold in his arms, the niece that he comforted on the night she didn't get her gift...
He squeezed her tight, giving her words of comfort, Mirabel sniffled and wiped her eyes before speaking again "We have to run away, and now, casita is falling apart." she looked him in the eyes, Bruno couldn't say no to her, she reminded him of himself, she was lost, and needed someone to find her, and Bruno was going to be the one to do it. He gathered his rats and let Mirabel lead the way; cracks covered every wall, she could still hear the yells of her parents begging her to come out, she ignored them and ran, dragging Bruno behind her. Poor Bruno, he could barely keep up with her on account of how fast Mirabel was running, they exited out the painting just as it began to collapse, just as they were about to leave through a window, Mirabel stopped, "What are you doing?! We have to go now!" Bruno shouted at his niece in worry and fear, Mirabel looked at him and told him to go on without her, "I'll meet you at the river!" She ran back to her room that was quickly falling apart.
She frantically opened joors, she grabbed a quilt, and a necklace with a locket that held a picture of her family, as more cracks formed around the room, she ran out and booked it out a window, she landed on her legs, thankfully it wasn't a big jump, so nothing was seriously injured, she got up, ignoring the pain in her ankle, she ran with a limp, making it harder to go through the harsh terrain of the forest, she reached the river and saw her tío Bruno waiting for her nervously, as soon as he saw her, he ran towards her hugging her and asking if she was okay, she nodded to his questions and hugged him back.
As they began to calm down, they heard their family yelling for Mirabel, as their voices got closer, Bruno grabbed her hand and they both began running away, they stayed near the river, following it's stream, as the voices became quieter until they were no longer audible, they stopped and rested...
What have they gotten themselves into?
