I felt my world crash down around me as I heard the news.
"You're being sent to the undercity." My mother's cold voice spat, holding her pipe smoke, not even looking at me. "... What?" I asked, hoping that she was only joking. My mother hated the undercity. The slightest mention of that place made her body shudder and she would need at least ten minutes to calm down. She used to live there, but now, she decides to do that to her daughter?! "B-but, mom... I can't possibly do that-" She slammed her pipe smoke to the pearl floor. Black ash staining the white platform. "Shut up child!" She yelled, looking down at the floor, then at me with a side-glance. Her yellow eyes were frightening as they sent the worst shivers down my spine and to my toes. They felt cold. My fingers were cold- I wanted to hide in my neatly-done hair that was pulled back, exposing my entire face.
I took a step back. How could she do this to me? I can't survive down there! I'll die right away! Suddenly, she picked her pipe smoke back and waved me off, now fixing herself in the mirror. "Do you know why you're going?" She asked. I shook my head, fiddling with my accessories. I jumped at the sound of her slamming her hands onto her desk. She started laughing, but it was not the one I grew up with. It terrified me. Her hands were tense, her pupils weren't the same size anymore... she'd let go of herself.
"I heard if you wanted to get rid of something, throw it down to the undercity! It might come back to you via ocean, but I don't think a human would survive swimming there would they? So, I'm making you go there, all on your own. In my time there wasn't any lift to the undercity. What you do is not my business as soon as you breathe fresh air." She ended, throwing her pipe smoke at me, making me inhale the ashes and cough wildly. She laughed as she pinned me against the wall, her grip being so tight I could barely keep a straight face. "YOU WORTHLESS BITCH! Do you know what you've done to my reputation?! With your stupid parkour and- and stupid street fights near the border- IT'S ALL ON ME! Everybody asks why my daughter does this and I DON'T KNOW! I HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE, LEAVE! YOU BELONG IN THE UNDERCITY- YOU'RE JUST LIKE YOUR RAT FATHER! The one who impregnated me! I sacrificed my life just to give you a better life, and THIS IS HOW YOU PAY ME BACK!?" She yelled into my face. Her spit sometimes gets into my face. I looked into her eyes with fear. "Mother... don't do this... please. I promise to be good!" I murmured, tears forming in the corners of my eyes, but before I could do anything, she tossed me onto the balcony with a bag and the pipe smoke and waved me goodbye, giving me an angry behind the glass door.
The balcony door locking was what made my eyes widen with horror. No! This isn't real! My mother would never do such a thing! Maybe If I stay out here long enough- she'll- she'll let me in! That's right! Come on, mother, please. I thought as I push and pulled on the doors, but she had already turned a corner. If I kicked the door open, she would drag me by the throat to the main entrance, I just know. As I watched my reflection in the window, I felt the tears finally fall down my face. This was it. I'm done for. Dead. Forever. If only I had held back from my desires, I would've still been in the care of my mother- but those stupid eyes of my mother- they were passed down to me! That stupid family curse! Those stupid yellow eyes! I couldn't bear to look at myself anymore as I turned away from the window and pulled that stupid, yellow ribbon out of my hair, making my locks fall. My hair kind of acted like a little shield from the world.
I couldn't help but groan as I turned to lay on my back, facing the floor above, not minding the pain of my head hitting the concrete, and took my time to cry. There wasn't anything else I felt like doing. This is my new life now. My curious mind made me open the bag and check what I had on me. Money, an extra pair of clothes, a jacket, a roll of band-aid, and a lighter? I grabbed it and turned it on. My mother really must not want me to get recognized- added a mask and all, but why the lighter? Maybe for the pipe smoke?
I grabbed the gold pipe smoke and twirled it in my hands. It was long and had many accessories stuck onto it, almost looking traditional or ancient. My body shrugged as I dropped it into one of the bag's pockets. Then, I pulled out the extra pair of clothes to take a quick look at it, it was quite boring. In the end, I took the jacket that was there and wrapped it around me before closing the bag and swinging it around my arms. Was there someone I could go to? Not really. Miss Medarda isn't fond of me, and neither is Mrs. Kiramman for my... hobbies.
