From the oldest of times, many have said that fire and water don't work together. Water is fire's enemy and fire is water downfall. Two opposites that cannot be together, at any cost. Enemies.
My sister and brother had always thought that fire was the most evil thing in the world, even while sitting around the campfire, the flames would be glared at, despite the warmth it was offering.
When I was younger I was in complete agreement with my siblings. Fire was the most evil thing in the world, after all. It took my mother away from me. Fire was dangerous, and it could cause harm.
In other words, the Water Tribe and the Fire Nation would be enemies for all of eternity. Opposites. Who would never be able to live in harmony together. Of course, there was no reason to argue against it. The ones who firebend destroyed our strong tribe. The water benders in our tribe were either slaughtered or imprisoned over the war. My mom was dead...my father was away fighting in the Earth Kingdom...and our tribe was tore apart, and left with the mark of the enemy.
There was a time when I despised the Fire Nation as much as my people and my family...
However, one cold day, my spite towards the horrible element and the people who controlled it change forever...
I recall the day my life changed. The day the young airbender arrived... The day my destiny was sealed...

My brother came in with a smile on his face saying "Hey Kari, want to go hunting with us?", "If we can actually catch something, that is." I say with a smug look on my face. "I'll meet you at west side in 10 minutes." I say
I gaze back in to the mirror and look upon myself. A tan face and a defined nose. I never really have been to self concious about my looks, except for that day. When everything changed. I pick up my faded blue comb. I carved it my self.
I comb through my black hair, it long and wavy and sits all the way down to my waist. I stare back into my blue eyes. Those were some of the things I loved about my self.
Crystal clear blue eyes and long wavy black hair, and of course my smile. I love everything about my self. Except for this. My scar. The mark of my enemy. It ran from my collarbone, all the way up to my left cheekbone. I move my hand up to touch it.
"No! Mommy! No!"
"Go Kari, get your father, I can handle this."
"No, Mommy! I'm scared!"
"You heard her child! Get out of here if you know what's good for you!"
"No!"
"Then you suffer!"
I heard my moms piercing scream as the fire hit me, that's all I remember.
I snapped back into reality. I saw my sister staring at me with concerned eyes. "You saw mom's death again, right?", "It's fine Kat, but yes I did." Katara mood turned a bit more sadder when she saw my face, but looked up at me again. "Sokka told me to come get you, he said that we actually have a chance at catching something." she said with a smirk on her face.
I gave her a light hearted smile as we trugded through the snow.
"Hey Kari, hey Katara. Finally, I was wondering when you guys would get here." Sokka said sharpening his spear, he tossed our spears at us. And we set sail.
"Sokka! Kari! Look, I'm doing it! I caught a fish!" she said with a spark in her eye, "That's great katara
